Paramount Australia & New Zealand

So he was a manager at Paramount back in the Star Trek the original series days…
The criticism of his recent business experience still stands up.

Consider that perhaps you, knowing Bruce, are not an objective observer.

Oh, since you know him, can you ask him to stop with the silly coverups and solid logos (which are both irritating and causing burn-in on TVs)?

And, after years of being a 10 affiliate, suggest he change the WIN News branding to be more like 10 News First instead of still pretending to be 9News.

Thanks.

Bruce owns a company that sells ads (WIN) and another one that sells DVDs and lives in the Caribbean to avoid the taxes.

Good business man. Yes.

Entertainment Industry? No

Point of order, Star Trek lasted three years. Bruce led Paramount Television global sales for a quarter of a century.

You keep saying that, but the facts are Seven delivers the number 1 supply in the country. Nine lost their number 1 status in the mid-late 2000s.

And yet Nine think they deserve more money, go figure…

Didn’t Nine take 2020 in 25-54 and total people?

Seven’s content delivered the highest ratings for regional Australia. Seven is the only network worthy of a premium for program supply at the moment.

… nope, I don’t think Bruce would call me a “friend”, but I worked for him for a number of years and we kept in touch for a number of years after that … and he also introduced me to quite a few people in the entertainment industry throughout the world …

I think we’ve all had a say but have strayed from the topic, please if we can re-focus to the topic but there is the WIN Television thread for discussion more specific to that organisation / management

I have. And he has no chops for entertainment at all. His solution to the affiliation crisis of 2009 was to play Crawfords Classics in primetime on STW and NWS.

Sounds good.

Intro to the video, Shari Redstone is presenting. Featuring someone parachuting into the Paramount backlot in a MI/Top Gun-esque parody. Mount Paramount is in the distance…

Speech is going about the integration of Viacom and CBS. A lot of virtual screens.

Mentions Paramount+, reaffirmed her father’s old adage Content is King. Says they are both linear and streaming for a while, and promises to be everywhere the viewer is.

and for the record, to save time, I will call Paramount+ P+ and ViacomCBS VIAC. Tough luck if you don’t like it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Bob Bakish is giving his speech…

Starts off with Paramount’s legacy and how they’ve moved with the times.

A lot of focus on Paramount+, PlutoTV and Showtime in the visuals. No mention of Ten at all yet. Surprising mention of the Smithsonian Channel.

Sounds like they might be pulling back third-party productions for streaming services, into Paramount+. Yanks will get live sports on their Paramount+ service, including top tier European football competitions.

Paramount+ to feature news from CBS’s 200 plus local affiliates. 36 original series to launch on P+, along with original movies. A big focus on reality TV, and 12 new reality series, 1 per month in 2021.
A big focus on Nick, including Spongebob. Several series look to be moving across exclusively to P+. Paramount movies to feature big time (obviously), movies to move to P+ within 30-45-90 days, including MGM, Miramax, and other studios.

Bob is back after James’s bit. Now talking their online services that isn’t P+ - PlutoTV, Showtime and BET OTT.

James Corden is making a speech. Oh boy. Some of his jokes blow.

Paramount+ starts March 4, in the US I’d assume. He’s running through what P+ will have.

Tom Ryan - head of streaming is on. Mentions curation and how it helps their strategy.

Now taking a break. Thoughts so far?

Obviously a huge mention of what will happen in the US. Not much in terms of Australia. Hopefully it will mirror what the VIAC approach is and everything VIAC goes to Ten and P+.

Obviously the situation will be different for Paramount+ in Australia due to existing movie supply deals with Foxtel. The local version of P+ will be more constrained and may only feature Paramount movies.

We’re back! Well, Tom is, more wank over P+ and the amount of content they have. 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision, mobile download and cross-platform play will be features, along with highlighted live content. Putting a lot of faith in the fact that VIAC has trusted brands like CBS, Nick, Paramount, MTV, etc.

Interesting backdrop of the Paramount studios. Now there is a promo video for P+.

George Cheeks talks about CBS’s content. Starts with live content, talking about NFL and how they’ll be able to watch on CBS and P+. They’ve picked up the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League, also picked up the NWSL, CONCACAF, Argentina and Brazil’s top divisions.
There will also be some original sports content too, like Inside the NFL, which moves to P+.

Now onto live news. Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell discussing the CBS News brand and its length and breadth. 60 Minutes Plus, 48 Hours Lie Detector series to launch exclusively on P+. CBSN to also feature, mentions it’s been on CBS All Access since 2017, so it’s a head start of sorts.

Documentaries to feature big, including football documentaries - looking forward to the Sir Alex doco. Black Gold from Time Studios, a Watergate documentary, 76 Days mentioned.

Judging by Cheeks’ speech, they sound like they’re going all in with P+.
