TVNZ has unveiled plans to refresh Breakfast next year and announced that co-host Jenny-May Clarkson is leaving the broadcaster.

I know she’s over at Stuff/three but Laura Tupou would be perfect paired with Chris on Breakfast. Laura was always a natural when filling in on AM and the project, she would be my pick.

Or they could take a risk and poach Lisette

The comments section on social media has been harsh on this news. Plenty of nasty racists going to start watching the show from next year though apparently

Many also hoping for an impartial replacement host and then suggesting Paul Henry and Ryan Bridge.

Jenny-May’s final day with Breakfast is this Friday.

Tova O’ Brien, Melissa Chan-Green and Lloyd Burr are the three frontrunners for the host position.

Because no one cultivates talent like TV3!

No thanks to all of them. Personally as I said earlier, I’d liked to see Laura Tupou take the role. Lloyd is good, Melissa is a good newsreader but I find her interactions/banter as forced and quite stale. Just my take.

Yawn, Melissa has had her turn on AM and all due respect was pretty dull, they need someone more engaging

Why don’t they just poach Sam Hayes and have done with it

Caught up on TVNZ+ with Breakfast the past two days. Wendy really is a breath of fresh air in whatever she’s hosting.

She probably won’t be considered for the role but she definitely deserves it. But I guess that’s her personal choice as well.

they need to bring a newsreader back. What’s the issue using their newsroom reporter to come in every half hour?

and a proper opening sequence

Edit: I didn’t realise how many sponsored segments they have now. Kinda feels like good morning

It’s a shadow of the show it once was - the Paul/Kay and Paul/Pippa years it felt like the show was flying. Now it’s really lifeless.

I hope the retooling mentioned sees it redevelop an edge of sorts.

I am hoping they atleast have a newsreader. I am wondering to if they will cut the show down to 2 hours a day from 7 to 9 am. They only ever extended to three hours to compete with Sunrise and we know how that went, so dont see a need to stay at 3 hours, other than if they feel the audience would drop in a massive way.

Also, I am one of those people who hate it when someone leaves and ask if so and so would come back, but this time I feel there is an exception. In saying this I wonder if now that Pippas kids are older, she would consider coming back, she really does have something quite unique and makes you want to watch.

Totally agree on Pippa, she would be great to return.
3 hours does feel too long as well. I’d look at 6:30-9 like it was in the Breakfast Business days, that felt a better balance.

why not just do the first hour as a straight news/business bulletin then 2 hours of breakfast?

I’m not sure, given the resources that were lost when Midday and Tonight were canned that there would be an ability to stand up an hour at 6am, but I like the concept.

It’d be the same resources that are going into the current 6am hour of Breakfast just positioned differently.

I suspect you’d need to upscale investment in packages etc still, depending on the format.

Even half an hour, like Today News do here in Australia.

I hope Simon gets a proper farewell tonight and walk of honour. Big loss for TVNZ imo
