If Wendy is happy to stay on in a casual/fill in role I am surprised they didn’t offer her the weekend job. Perhaps even with a significant salary reduction she would have stayed on.
On a similar note I see they are still using Toni Street as a fill in on Seven Sharp. Surely in cost saving mode TVNZ could find an existing news presenter rather than bring in an external fill in.

Depends how long Melissa, who only started a couple of years ago, has signed on for. May have worked out more expensive in the long run.
She’s probably contracted to do X number of fill-in nights a year. But I agree.
I say put Melissa Stokes on Breakfast because she makes an awesome newsreader on the early news and put Wendy Petrie on the weekend 6pm news. I quite enjoyed watching her this weekend and I usually switch onto Newshub because I don’t really like Melissa Stokes on 6pm news.

The blue and red graphics are very reminiscent of 9 News here in Australia, and although they’re not my favourite I’d have to say they’re better executed on 1 News than 9 News.
