November 10 2001: 10 wraps up it’s final Melbourne Cup Carnival Broadcast (Before 2019), live and exclusive from Flemington Racecourse in Victoria. This eventually meant the final ever Television appearances (Until Social Media became a thing) from the likes of Dan Mielicki, Gary Willetts, Jenny Chapman and the late Roy Higgins as well as Lyn Talbot.

Unlike the other three days, I don’t think there was any races scheduled after 5:00 pm AEDT, because the coverage wrapped up with Tim Webster and Peter Donegan in a studio.

I remember Channel Seven burst out of the blocks in 2005 (Lleyton’s run to the AO final, Desperate Housewives, Lost etc) but eventually ran out of steam towards the end as Nine yet again claimed the ratings year.

The 2002-06 period was a tough one for Seven but regaining the AFL and Supercars rights, among other things, saw them start to turn around their fortunes in the middle of the noughties.
