22 October 1984: Network Ten presents the telemovie Matthew And Son, a starring vehicle for former The Sullivans star Paul Cronin. Produced by Johnny Young’s Television House production company and intended as a pilot for an ongoing series, the telemovie also starred Paula Duncan, Darius Perkins and Nicole Kidman.
22 October 2002: Network Ten presents the special The Sandman: The Speed Of Doubt. The Sandman (Steve Abbott) goes on a journey to discover why some people are successful and others are destined to fail. Guest stars include Madeleine West, Geoff Huegill, Rose Porteous, Anthony Mundine, Neil Finn, Dylan Lewis, Steve Bisley and Harry M Miller.

Yes while the awards were broadcast in Melbourne on 22 October 1971, as you can see on the clapperboard in that video the presentation was actually taped (very late) the night before, possibly due to Johnny Farnham and awards guest, British actor Derek Nimmo both committed in the evenings to the Melbourne stage production of Charlie Girl.
TEN10 Sydney aired the awards on 23 October, and SAS10 Adelaide on 25 October.
This was actually a repeat of a special that originally aired in 1992, but it was the possibly the first HHIS-related programme on Nine since the original run ended in 1999. I remember it being newsworthy on MS around this time (yes, that’s how long I’ve been around)

23 October 1964: Hobart’s TVT6 presents live coverage of the Miss Australia 1965 pageant from the Hobart Town Hall. The coverage is recorded for delayed broadcast on the mainland, including HSV7 Melbourne on 24 October and ATN7 Sydney on 25 October.
23 October 1976: All four Melbourne channels televise the eclipse of the sun from Ballarat. With the public told that to avoid eye damage the best way to watch the eclipse was on TV, ratings for the afternoon telecasts were huge.
