Considering Nine’s press release talked about their news talk stations broadcasting “key moments”, perhaps that gives them room to do a sublicensing deal with say SEN who could provide more comprehensive coverage?
As much as I admire your passion for the guy and respect him as a solid broadcaster over a lengthy stint, I highly doubt Nine would go back to somebody from the past, nor somebody who hasn’t even been on their books for some 5 (6.5 years by next Olympics) for a host gig, when they’ve got a few obvious and solid enough choices in their current ranks to continue to promote on-air.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Todd Woodbridge is one of them, he demonstrated his hosting ability at Rio 2016, Seven’s final years of tennis, Gold Coast 2018 and Nine’s cricket.
I was mucking around when I said that about Mark, more just pointing out they used him in 2012 as a late night show, for highlights.
I agree on that Todd Woodbridge would be a huge addition to the coverage, he is well liked by viewers.
I wonder how much of the world feed will they take over Nine commentators and will do they do a seven and not send people over but instead call from studios here in Australia.
I don’t know about that…
They’ll have radio coverage. If 7 had the Olympic rights, they will have to on-sell the pay TV rights to Foxtel and radio rights. Difference with 7 and 9 is that 9 had print and radio. 7 on-sold print rights to News Corp and had The West Australian in Perth for Tokyo and radio rights were on SEN.
$305m for 5 Olympics is a steal for Nine
Nine have a great amount of talent in the WWOS team with great experience too. Just look at their terrific coverage of the Tennis, Rugby Union, League, Swimming. Plenty of great presenters and reporters. Will be interesting to see how many NRL and Super Rugby presenters/commentators Nine use for Paris and what will be left to cover those games. I expect the big names like Matthew Thompson, James Bracey, Emma Lawrence, Danika Mason to be involved some way/shape/form in the Olympics coverage. Roz Kelly and Nick McArdle to be used as well. Could we see different hosts for the Stan Sport coverage and the Nine/9 Gem/9 Go coverage? Will we see different hosts for the Nine Radio coverage or will it be a direct simulcast? Will Nine be able to attract some presenters who want to be involved in the Olympics? Who will make the switch from Seven to Nine? I guess we will get a good indication over the next twelve months of any sports presenters/hosts/commentators that suddenly appear to be joining Nine - way point towards them being involved in the coverage for the Olympics. So many questions to be answered. 534 days to go!!!
and a 2032 home Olympics too.
Matty, I think you’ve misread the room there, I’m inclined to agree with akymbo82. Anyone is entitled to share their opinion, no question, however to me I read that as you’re speaking for a majority, in the context here and I feel Todd has proven himself for many many years now and was rather well received as Bruce’s replacement (due to ill health - not publicly revealed for a few years later) at Seven with Jim Courier and then moving across to Nine. He’s always been an excellent analyst and then caller and also turned out to be handy behind the desk too. No, he’s no Bruce. But then again nobody else will be.
A very quick compilation of potential names below that are associated with the network WWOS events. Nine will need to find some more names to add to the list for sports. For hosts and reporters I think they have more than enough.

Will be interesting and a breath of fresh air to hopefully see a new Athletics commentary team. I have been a bit sick and tired of Richo/Coulbert/Tamsyn…
Nah, he’s pretty ordinary, numerous mistakes in the host chair, find him rather tedious, okay tennis analyst but tends to be a puppet for TA at times.
Some people are not happy though…
Maybe that’s just James Warburton in disguise
Seven just had the rights to the last four Olympic Games and they decided not to on-sell the pay TV rights…
Well it is Twitter…
Ah, I did wonder what became of our resident Nine publicist, at least we now know still alive, elsewhere. Sigh.
Bruce is Mr Olympics Really disappointed Seven didn’t stump up the cash
Oops. Leisel Jones is not Susie O’Neill.
