Olympics Rights 2024-32 (Nine)

That makes total sense. I did forget that the IOC are very protective of their branding.

I did wonder if it was to allow ABC some coverage.

Does anyone produce a “world” feed for radio coverage? Its a bit hard to strip the audio from the TV feeds and expect it to make sense

Not to my knowledge.

The new rights deal gives Nine to set up its own Olympics legacy, much like what Sydney 2000 did for Seven.

Not allowed to use the Olympic rings? Massive news for Nine.

Hope they secure the Paris Swimming Trials, Commonwealth Games and Paralympics to complement this. Nine is now the home of sport.

the rings will be there. I would expect maybe we won’t see them this year as they will probably have to modify the watermark to make it work. hopefully there will be some sort of refresh to coincide with the olympics

The end of an era as well. No more Bruce at the Olympics

Bring back Ken Sutcliffe I say. Out of his retirement

Not necessarily. As I replied to Colin’s tweet this evening, either Bruce can commentate the Olympics for Nine Radio/SEN or become a commentator for OBS which provides the world feed.

Nine’s press release from this afternoon was finally posted on the IOC website tonight.

AOC welcomes Nine Entertainment as new Olympic broadcaster

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has welcomed news that Nine Entertainment Co will be the Australian broadcaster of Summer and Winter Olympic Games through to the conclusion of the Brisbane 2032 Summer Games.

AOC President Ian Chesterman said the IOC’s announcement that Nine is the rights holding broadcaster for the decade is great news for Australian sports fans and Australian sport, starting with Paris 2024.

“This is exciting to have Nine on board as a long-term broadcaster for our Olympic movement at Games-time. Nine has a well-deserved reputation for high quality sports coverage over many decades.

“With the arrangements extending across multiple platforms, Australians will be able to take in all the Games excitement no matter where they are.

“Channel Nine did an outstanding job in London back in 2012 and we know they will give Australians a front row seat to the exciting performances of our Australian Olympic athletes in Paris next year.

“Paris will provide a spectacular backdrop but once again the real stars will be the athletes - their stories and their performances. Nine will bring all that to life.

“And looking beyond Paris, the Winter Games in Milan-Cortina 2026, Los Angeles 2028 and then our home Games in Brisbane 2032, this is a wonderful green and gold decade for Australian sport,” Mr Chesterman concluded.

AOC CEO Matt Carroll says with planning well advanced for the Australian Team competing at the Paris 2024 Games, the AOC is looking forward to working with the Nine broadcast team.

“Like sport itself, nothing stands still, and we know that Nine will bring something different and innovative to the 2024 Games coverage.

“The AOC has been working very closely with our member sports to navigate the complexities of getting potentially 470 athletes plus a team of support staff into Paris, providing a world-class high-performance environment and getting everyone home.

“With Nine now confirmed as the Olympic broadcaster in Australia, we are really looking forward to working with Mike Sneesby and the Nine team in bringing the performances of our athletes to everyone back home.

“I would also like to acknowledge the commitment and expertise of the Channel Seven team over many years and thank them for their contribution to the Olympic movement in Australia,” Mr Carroll concluded.

So who will be hosting the games next year? Wasn’t it Stefanovic and someone else

You’re going to be waiting a long time for that answer when they aren’t until next July… might wanna hold off a bit.

Didn’t ‪Bruce do swimming for the Olympic Broadcaster in 2012 when 9 had the London Olympics?

So that might happen again in 2024‬

Oh my bad… I read it wrong. He was part of the pitching idea @MBB

Probably a carbon copy of their Aus Open: Tony Jones > Roz Kelly > James Bracey (and other spots for a 9Gem feed presuming they opt for one).

Surely Karl will be focussed on Today (its biggest opportunity during a games), same for Sara and for ACA with Ally (unless they rest that). And Alicia Loxley probably busy with Nine News Melbourne.

Wonder if Today Extra hosts are an option? Or another WWOS caller or someone for an opportunity? But Bracey would again have to be their obvious No. 1.

They used Mark Nicolas in 2012, so they might bring him back.
