It is still huge news.

Interesting that the Australian broadcast rights deal have not been mentioned on the websites of Australian Olympic Team nor the IOC, or their social media outlets as yet.

Nine’s press release says the company has acquired non-exclusive audio rights to the next five Olympic Games. That suggests the IOC is keen to sell other audio rights to Australian radio broadcasters should they be interested. When Seven had the Olympic rights, the audio rights were exclusive to Seven which then on-sold them to networks like SEN, ABC, Triple M and Nine (including 2GB).

Story running on Nine News Melbourne at 6:15pm. Footage being used from games covered by Seven ironically.

Announces that Nine have gotten the games from 2024-2032, however only scenic footage is shown. Ends with “Australia’s Olympic Network” with Nine/9Now logos. No mention of Stan.

Well, they’re only the rights holder of the past 40+ years (except for about 3 summer games), as well as others shared prior to that…

Exclusive to linear and non-exclusive streaming…not sure there’d be a streaming option keen on them without linear.

Given Nine’s syndication network, they may use that mechanism to get more stations on linear broadcasts. The non-exclusive streaming rights was interesting though, someone else interested perhaps?

Nine’s Wide World of Sports brand has an impressive lineup leading into 2032. Securing the trials for Paris 2024 with Swimming Australia will be a bonus for the network seeing our swimmers in the lead-up.

Yeah, been trying to think. Maybe allowing SEN to stream online only? But not sure of the value for Hutchy and co…

While I think the promo is generally fine, I couldn’t help but notice the distinct lack of Olympic branding. If it wasn’t for the single mention in the voice-over and the tagline on the end-screen, it could be easily mistaken for a generic travel advert.

I think it’s safe to say Nine are now the ‘Home of Sport’ :1st_place_medal:

Not sure how Seven will feel about that, considering it’s been their only top-rating department in recent years.

Never would’ve imagined Nine would turn into Seven, after the Australian Open and Olympics were on the latter for what seemed like forever! Historic, really.

Really?

There are legalities and rules surrounding the use of the rings. Expect to see them in the coming weeks .

If Nine get the Melbourne Cup Carnival and V8 Supercars rights, 2024, 2028, 2032 would mirror Seven in 2008 when they essentially had everything except cricket. Also one of the most dominant ratings years for a network general programming wise, along with 2011.
