Seven are being very hush hush about their telecast details…
Like, you’d think the van/bunker (where all the cameras/feeds with the director/producers) for Seven’s Olympics, would be in the Rio IBC?
Isn’t Sydney just being used as the studio/host position?
As well as where the digital (app/website/technicians) are based. And no doubt executives from Pyrmont popping in and out.
(i.e.) They’re not actually producing/controlling their Olympics coverage from Sydney, Australia are they? (That would be so weird & hard to do)
I am interested to see what the Rio studios of other broadcasters such as NBC and BBC look like compared with Seven’s. So far there is an article on NBC’s outside studio, at Copacabana Beach.
I was just comparing it to any other sport broadcast (like AFL, Melbourne Cup, Australian Open, etc) where 7 Sport have a van/bunker at the venue controlling the broadcast.
Assuming we’re correct, then what are the “100 or so” 7 Sport team in Rio for?
Just supporting the commantators, cameramen, etc?

It makes you wonder why they didn’t just utilise their HD broadcast facilities at BCM? Must have cost quite a bit of money/planning to set-up that whole facility at their Eveleigh studios.
Originally I just thought it was because Mel McLaughlin, Kylie Gillies & Jim Wilson lived in Sydney…
Well I read that NBC will be delaying the prime time coverage to the West Coast. That really is hopeless. They say they can just watch live events on the website or on the app but still the main broadcast channel will air delayed on the west coast during prime time.
It’s just an abbreviation for “Broadcast Centre Melbourne”.
(And yes, it’s officially known as “BCM” (e.g.) If you see images from staff of any of Ch 7’s studio control rooms across the country, a few monitors have the name “BCM” with a photo of the HSV-7 building, like seen on Sunrise).
For curiosity, Australia’s FTA transmission facilities are as follows:
•Seven Network (“BCM”): Docklands, Melbourne
•Nine Network (“National Playout Centre”): Frenchs Forest, Sydney
cmo is right, prime time and indeed the vast majority of NBC’s coverage will be delayed for West Coast viewers:
The advantageous time zone — Rio is one hour ahead of New York — will let NBC program the most live events ever for an Olympics, especially in primetime on NBC.
To that end, Bell confirmed that West Coast viewers who will not be seeing live content during NBC’s primetime coverage can still watch all events live on NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.
