According to the press release, a “state of the art digital facility is under construction in Sydney for the Rio 2016 Olympics”.
Any thoughts in what that’s is for?
I would’ve thought Seven Sport’s producers & directors for the coverage, would be based in Rio (where all the feeds are first coming in)?
At least that’s what I understood was their “co-ordination centre” (also mentioned in the press release).
And yes, there will be extensive staff 24/7 at BCM, controlling & maintaining the transmission across Australia.

Possibly the virtual studio we saw in the promo up-thread? I doubt Seven had a space kitted out for those sorts of purposes before.
Another potential glimmer of hope? I wish Seven would stop being so coy, it’s not as if they in competition with Nine like they usually are.
Heard on 3AW this morning the NBC’s request to the IOC to have the US team towards the back of the queue at the parade of nations during the opening ceremony has been rejected. Tradition states that teams will enter the arena according to alphabetical order of the local language (US translates to Estados Unidos in Portuguese). NBC wanted American athletes to be among the last teams to enter the arena so that a bigger audience would be watching them back home. NBC may have paid big bucks for the Olympics and forced the swimming finals to move to late night Brazil time, but not everything should be going its way.
Also, Bill Woods is calling some events for Seven’s coverage. He may be working for Seven only or as part of the Olympic Broadcasting Service providing the world feed.
I think we need to forget about 7HD being widespread and just put up with whatever HD isn on 7 Mate for the timebeing whilst we wonder what 7’s thinking is lol.
I don’t think so, there’s not enough space at HSV-7 (with the Seven News studio in use each day & the Seven Sport studio in use for 7 Racing & AFL Game Day, etc).
Redfern (which is Eveleigh studios) is where the “7 Olympics” digital team/facility & main studio are being set up.
Rio is the co-ordination centre for the broadcast/production.
Melbourne (BCM) is operating/transmitting the broadcast into and across Australia (staffed 24/7 of course).
There are also Seven Sport & digital staff there too, but mainly for “Channel 7” & the AFL.
One would think much of the the pre-preproduction, graphics, etc is already complete to take to Rio and/or BCM?
Seven has gained permission from Channel 4 UK to make a local version of We’re the Superhumans promo for the Rio Paralympic Games. We may see the finished product during the closing ceremony broadcast.
Seven has finally revealed the cost for the Olympics on 7 app’s premium service for Android and iOS: $19.95. The premium service allows viewers to watch 3,250 hours of live sports from Seven, 7TWO, 7mate and the Olympic Broadcast Service across 36 channels.
The Australian Olympic Committee has lost is fight to stop Telstra running ads promoting its sponsorship of the Seven Network’s Olympics app in a shock judgement in the Federal Court this afternoon.
Telstra allowed to continue Olympic advertisements by court
“None of the advertisements, videos, catalogues, emails, or online materials, or other marketing or promotional materials that employ the Olympic expressions, would suggest to a reasonable person that Telstra is or was a sponsor of, or is or was the provider of sponsorship-like support, to any relevant Olympic body.”
“The long and short of it is that conduct by Telstra which amounted to nothing more than Telstra advertising or promoting its relationship and arrangements with Seven, including with respect to the Olympics on 7 app, could not fairly be regarded as misleading or deceptive,” his reasoning said.
