Noah Lyles finished third in the men’s 200m race overnight, before he received medical attention off the track. He later revealed he had tested positive for Covid-19 two days before the race.
Jessica Fox has been elected to the IOC’s Athletes Commission, alongside American seven-time gold medallist Allyson Felix, German gymnast Kim Bui and New Zealand tennis player Marcus Daniell. They will represent the athletes until Brisbane 2032.
Was part of the commission as an appointed member but now as an elected member. Will now become an IOC member.
Top three at the Olympics is where we want to stay, says John Coates
Where all that gold will come from is dependent on many factors – and one of them is money.
The other is the trailblazing sports where gold medallists are being developed in dusty, suburban skateparks and not necessarily on grass ovals or in the water.
If the new sports can continue the success they have had in Paris, then Mr Coates’s target may be achievable.
I have no idea what I’m watching here with the breakdancing, but the Australian competitior “Raygun” looks like she is perfectly dressed to open the bowling for the women’s ODI cricket team…
Hopefully we don’t see ‘Breaking’ at Brisbane 2032. Ballroom dancing would have more merit than this!
She’s copping it online
It’s not returning in LA 2028, so I doubt it will be in Brisbane 2032.
Action sports And in a big way, especially skateboarding IMO (and two Aussie golds - one back to back)
But break dancing… It’s a no from me. Unfortunate the Aussie was a disaster (had an off day?) and has since gone viral.
I doubt we’ll see Ballroom in the Olympics
This was an interesting read into how Breaking ended up in the Olympics
Spain’s men’s football team has added the Olympic Games gold medal to its European Championships victory in July.
Looked deliberate. Not really sure what she was trying to prove there.
Well look how much coverage she is getting worldwide. Her dance has pretty much gone viral. It was probably the plan.
I wont be disappointed to see break dancing disappear from the Olympics. It just feels so out of place.
The Opals have crashed out of the semi finals, going down to United States, 85-64. The United States controlled through the entire game. United States will play France in the Gold Medal match of the Women’s Basketball. Interesting that in the Men’s Basketball Gold Medal match, France will play USA in the Final!
Opals will still have a shot at the Bronze medal tonight against Belgium (Aus time).
Australia’s Women’s Beach Volleyball duo also lost their own bronze medal match overnight.
We still have gold medal hopes in the Women’s Water Polo final against Spain tonight.
Gold medalists Kaylee McKewon (Swimming) and Matt Wearn (Sailing) will carry the Australian flag at the closing ceremony.
That is interesting considering Kaylee has already left France and is holidaying with family in Croatia!
Possibly she is having a short family holiday before flying back for the closing ceremony and then getting a direct flight back to Australia.
Also possible she only got the call after she left for her holiday.
Which was always the problem with the AOC’s ridiculous policy that you had to leave the village 24 hours after your last event. Athletes weren’t necessarily going to stay in Paris. Given our success in the games, the AOC will probably feel vindicated but in reality it looks cheap, nasty and petty.
Especially since they aren’t getting free accommodation outside of the village, free tickets to other events (which would’ve sold out in advance) - in fact, the only other free thing they are getting now is a free flight back home.
