Yes that makes sense.

Good to have Offsiders back for another year.

Talked about the sports played in the last week, particularly the Asian Cup (soccer) and the West Indies Series in the Cricket.

There was no “Summer Series” this time around?

Just continuing @TV.Cynic’s caps from the back-end of last week on various programs paying tribute, ABC’s Offsiders’ Kelli Underwood farewelled her “colleague and friend” towards the end of the show, also noting Network Ten and his widow Kate who worked at the ABC:

I thought the show/Kel might, they were very close 15 years ago in the ATV-10 sports newsroom, also presented filling-in for Stephen Quartermain and I believe another colleague of theirs from the same period Roger Oldridge produces or did produce the Offsiders show in recent years.

Offsiders: Magic Round Special

It’s really time to drop Caroline Wilson and Roy Masters - their interest in anything outside of the AFL and NRL respectively is poor, not to mention Masters just rambles.

Today’s coverage of the A-League final was Wilson talking shit about the TV deal (and basically goading Simon Hill to respond) and calling out Kelli for calling the game “football”, Masters took it back to rugby league, and his mate Singo with a great line “The Central Coast is as big as Gosford” (Kelli thinks he meant Geelong)

Offsiders have done well to find some really good panelists from a diverse range of sports - why they keep going back to these two is beyond me.

Probably because AFL and NRL are the two biggest sports in Australia at the moment. They will probably drop Roy Masters after NRL finishes, but keep Caroline Wilson for the AFLW season.

The point is there are better options than them to talk about these sports. There are so many other journos or experts they could/should be using.

Many of them would be contracted to either Nine (who have Sunday footy shows), NewsCorp, or would be busy preparing for duties for various matches, etc.

Offsiders “Olympics special” this morning.

On the panel is swimmer and Olympian Leisel Jones, and journalists Paul Kennedy and Waleed Aly.

There was 15 minutes of Olympics talk, which is great. Especially when no footage was shown for copyright reasons, and just a few photos were shown.

NRL Grand Final special is on tomorrow.

Kelli Underwood and the panel Ryan Hoffman, Jess Stewart and Roy Masters preview the NRL Grand Final between the Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm, plus the NRLW Grand Final between the Roosters and Sharks.
