Fox Sports has their own dig at FTA “No Ad Breaks”. FTA can’t compete with that.

Jillaroos vs New Zealand Kiwi Ferns

Nine’s all-encompassing rugby league coverage will continue on Friday night when Australia’s national women’s team, the Jillaroos, battle it out with the New Zealand Kiwi Ferns in Newcastle.

The Harvey Norman Jillaroos got the better of the Kiwi Ferns last year and will be keen make it a double victory for Australia on Friday night at Hunter Stadium, where the Kangaroos also play a Trans-Tasman test against the Kiwis.

Channel Nine rugby league expert and former Kangaroos captain Darren Lockyer will call the game alongside Mathew Thompson and former Jillaroos captain, Jo Barrett.

“This match will produce good contact, a high level of skill and a lot of passion, just like any normal test match should,” said Lockyer.

“Expect to see some pure rugby league with neither team engaging in much wrestling like we often see at NRL level.

“Some of the huge contact that I witnessed in the 2015 test match really surprised me. Most of this was supplied by Kiwi Ferns’ second-rower Teuila Fotu-Moala – she is definitely a player to look out for. Get set for some very entertaining rugby league between these two teams on Friday night.”

This match, a curtain raiser to the men’s test between the two countries, will be streamed live on the NRL website (kick off 5.15pm AEST) for subscribers of NRL Digital Pass.

Will be looking forward to watching it back when I get home. Those girls don’t take any prisoners. I’ll probably get to see most of it at the ground but will be making my way there when it kicks off

Should be live on GEM, not 5hr delay

Fox Sports would never pull that shit

Country Origin vs City Origin

New South Wales State of Origin hopefuls will battle it out to be in blue when Nine’s LIVE and FREE Sunday Afternoon Football presents the annual City vs Country clash in Tamworth on Sunday.

City Origin-Country Origin traditionally serves as the entrée to the main course of the NSW Origin campaign and this year it will be no different, with a host of stars on display in the regional setting of Tamworth in Northern NSW.

Channel Nine rugby league expert Brett Finch made two appearances for NSW Country and is looking forward to structured play going out the window.

“It’s exciting for the younger players to be involved in this rep fixture, and for many a good performance here will be the stepping stone to a State of Origin jersey,” Finch said“

The last few years of City-Country have shown that the structured style of play in the NRL goes out the window and coaches really encourage their players to trust their instincts on the field – which makes for some exciting footy.

“Keep an eye on Country captain James Maloney and their second-row partnership of Tyson Frizell and Boyd Cordner. For City, I’m really keen to see what Bryce Cartwright will produce at representative level.”

guessing Matthew Thompson on City Country on Sunday? i don’t think Rabs would touch that one.

We might be graced with the voice of Tim Gilbert

geez, I hope not. He’s not a good commentator at all…!!!

Mat Thompson appeared on screen today for the coin toss at City vs Country.
Haven’t seen him on screen before.

Not sure if that means he will call the game today or not.

Microphones got too close to the players just before half time.

Canberra player Blake Austin got hit high, got up with a bloody nose, and was heard quite audibly to yell “my f***in nose!!”

Matt Thompson did call the Country v City game.
I notice Wide World of Sports’ Twitter had three separate posts promoting tonight’s match telecast: one for NSW/QLD, one for Victoria and one for SA. But why not for WA?

Wonder if that was coming through the ref’s mic

Yvonne Sampson will become the first female host of the State of Origin opener on Wednesday, taking over from Ken Sutcliffe. It will be the first time in several years the match is broadcast in HD, but WA will miss out as the match will air on 9Gem which is now in SD.

I believe that the last time that the State Of Origin aired in HD was back in 2010 (same year as the 3D tests and also only shortly before GEM started broadcasting at/around the time of the NRL Grand Final), but I’d have to check on that.

Hadn’t Cameron Williams been doing the hosting duties in recent years?

I can understand Nine wanting to raise the profile of some of their younger talent, but it seems stupid to leave your star performer on the sidelines on one of the biggest viewing nights of the year. The decision was made by one of the players involved in the 60 Minutes abduction story so who knows what they are thinking.

Hasn’t Ken Sutcliffe generally cut back on his Wide World Of Sports commitments over the last few years? At the very least, I’m pretty sure that you don’t see him hosting as much major sporting coverage (of any type) for the network these days.

I’m seeing venue advertising for WIN News on Nine’s Sunday Football. I wonder whether we’ll continue to see advertising at NRL venues for WIN after July 1st.
