NRL on Nine

Good.

I really wish they would update the WWOS intro to that neon sign one we are seeing the NRL coverage using. The current intro is hangover from 2012 it’s 13 years old and was recoloured from red to blue

Melbourne getting NRL on the main channel in the afternoon next Sunday. Probably won’t be a good lead into news. Especially up against AFL.

This sounds like another PVL left field move. If it works it will work really well but if not everyone moves on.

Nine must have a contractual arrangement to air NRL live on the main channel in Melbourne whenever they cover a Storm game. It makes a nice change from the bad old days of having to wait until 11.45pm for a replay.

The post match content coming out of Vegas is great. But the atmosphere is lost as soon as there is a cross to Sydney.

If you lucky to have it started at 11:45pm and most of the times if was after midnight start.

I lived in Pakenham, I could watch the game at Olympic Park on Friday Night and travel home on Public Transport and be home to watch the replay on Nine with plenty of time to make a cup of coffee.

I do remember once in 2009 their round two game against the Brisbane Broncos was shown live into Melbourne, but the other Friday night game that evening was on delay (back when Nine had the Friday night double headers, with one match live and the other delayed depending on the market/teams playing).

However, I believe that was a one-off as the AFL season had yet to commence.

Otherwise, delayed Storm matches meant that GTV viewers would’ve seen the infamous Battle of Brookvale match of 2011 after midnight - some 2.5 hours after the full-time whistle.

My Comment goes back to Storm time of the Late 90’s- 2006ish (I think). Friday Night Football did not rate apparently according to the Programmer at GTV however it was not even given a chance at least 9:30pm that what was annoying. Late 90’s -2002 Storm games had Radio Coverage on 3AK(with Commentry from Arthur Higgins ex GTV9 Sport presenter) which pissed Ray Hadley off( as well as Ray pissing off John Ribot… Storm Cloud by Paul Kennedy mentions the reason in the book)

1999 season, They only shown the Storm Finals against Parramatta and Canterbury live in Melbourne because it was on a Sunday Afternoon if I remember correctly and also they got complaints for not showing the Storm Vs Dragons Final at Olympic Park(Dragons won 34-10)

As in the post above where I lived in Pakenham, Games were played from Olympic Park on WIN but not on GTV-9. I think it was a issue with the Programmer in GTV

It was not until Digital TV when there was a opportunity to show Storm Games on FTA.

Battle of Brookvale was Live on 9Gem in Melbourne(I think the Wiki page of 9gem is incorrect with the year they started broadcasting NRL games incorrect)

I think I can recall the Storm vs Eels prelim being delayed on GTV due to state election coverage.

9Gem began televising the Friday night double headers live in the AFL states from round five, 2012. The Storm vs Knights match played on the Friday night that round was live into all markets except Brisbane, which got the Broncos vs Dragons live. The Sunday 4:00pm game was delayed in all markets (meaning a three-hour delay in Perth), though from 2015 the kick-off time was pushed back to 4:05pm to allow Nine to show it live.

Couple of promos for Thursday. For the second one there are slightly different versions for each state.

QLD: Can Maguire’s Broncos deliver a message?
NSW: Can the revamped Roosters destroy Maguire’s debut?

Sport promos look better than the actual network programming ones… they actually work with the logo, as apposed to network ones just having the flat logo slapped on.

NRL ROUND 1 BLOCKBUSTERS THIS WEEK ON THE 9NETWORK

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTY: ROOSTERS V BRONCOS

FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTY: DOLPHINS V RABBITOHS

NRL Round 1 goes up a gear this week with three mouth-watering match ups - Roosters v Broncos, Dolphins v Rabbitohs and Storm v Eels - all live and free on Channel 9 and 9Now, from Thursday, March 6 at 7.30pm AEDT.

First up, two heavyweight clubs will collide on Thursday Night Footy between the Roosters and Broncos at Allianz Stadium, Sydney. The Roosters have been written off after a raft of injuries to key players and roster changes, but three-time premiership winning coach Trent Robinson and captain James Tedesco will be ready to lead the chooks to a statement victory at home against a fancied Broncos side.

New Broncos coach Michael Maguire has the likes of Reece Walsh, Pat Carrigan and the returning Ben Hunt at his disposal, which has many considering them Premiership threats.

The Dolphins will meet their former coach Wayne Bennett in his Rabbitohs return on Friday Night Footy in Sydney. The Rabbitohs will be without their Origin superstars Latrell Mitchell and Cameron Murray, but there has been no one more successful than supercoach Bennett at playing the underdog card.

His former protege turned Dolphins head coach Kristian Woolf, will be hoping for some backline brilliance from the freakishly fast Hamiso Tabui-Fidow and Herbie Farnworth. Go behind the scenes with the Dolphins in RISE OF THE DOLPHINS: Episode 1 following Dolphins v Rabbitohs in all markets on Channel 9, now available to stream on 9Now.

Sunday Arvo Footy launches from AAMI Park, Melbourne where Craig Bellamy and the Storm aim to extend their run of 22 straight Round 1 victories. Standing in their way is a fresh Parramatta Eels line up, coached by former Storm assistant Jason Ryles.

On the field, the Storm are out to atone for finishing runners up last season when Cam Munster, Ryan Papenhuyzen and Dally M Medallist Jahrome Hughes look to send an emphatic statement to the rest of the competition.

DOLPHINS DIVE INTO NEWCASTLE, EAST V WEST AND THE EELSTAKE ON THE TIGERS

NRL LIVE AND FREE THIS WEEK ON THE 9NETWORK

THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTY: KNIGHTS V DOLPHINS
FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTY: PANTHERS V ROOSTERS
SUNDAY ARVO FOOTY: EELS V TIGERS

The Dolphins and Knights under Thursday night lights, Nathan Cleary and the Panthers at their new home on Friday and the rest of the west on Sunday in Eels v Tigers, will head up NRL Round 2 on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Live and free from Thursday, March 13 at 7.30pm AEDT, The Knights fortress in Newcastle hosts Thursday Night Footy when the Dolphins come knocking for their first victory of the season. Revenge is also on their minds for being denied a finals spot at the same site in the final round of 2024.

You can take your pick of the tasty individual match ups across the park. Freakish fullbacks
Kalyn Ponga and Hamiso Tabui-Fidow, twin brothers Jacob and Daniel Saifiti, and star centres Bradman Best and Herbie Farnworth.

On Friday Night Footy the battlelines will be drawn at CommBank Stadium in the middle of Sydney where the NRL’s giants of the East, the Sydney Roosters, meet the giants of the West, the Penrith Panthers.

Since their last premiership victory in 2019, the Roosters have been winless against the Panthers when they look to the leadership of energetic captain James Tedesco to show them some hope for their 2025 season. Fronted by Nathan Cleary, the men in black are back after an opening round win in Las Vegas and have set their sights on kicking off their two-year home ground stay at CommBank with an emphatic victory.

Sunday Arvo Footy pits the Eels against the Wests Tigers. Both teams are keen to get off the mark and secure their first win of the season, but this task will lay in the hands of the two big name playmakers, Tigers new signing Jarome Luai and Dylan Brown of the Eels.

Opposite ends of the spectrum have been seen in their last two matchups. The Eels piled on 60 points in the final round of the 2024 season to hand the Tigers the wooden spoon, while the Tigers won a field goal thriller in an Easter Monday classic.
