The NRL season is back with a bang from the entertainment capital of the world when Las Vegas lights up for Round 1, and it’s free from 11.00am AEDT, on Sunday, March 2
Available on Channel 9HD and 9Now, Nine’s Wide World of Sports is the place to be for free footy across NRL opening day from Allegiant Stadium.
The ultimate NRL season preview gets coverage underway live from Las Vegas with Karl Stefanovic, Danika Mason, Johnathan Thurston, Phil Gould and Paul Gallen. While James Bracey and experts Andrew Johns, Cameron Smith, Billy Slater, Millie Elliott, Allana Ferguson and Brad Fittler reveal all their tips, tricks and bold predictions for the season ahead.
On field the Australian Jillaroos and England kick off the live action with a Women’s International at 1pm AEDT. Reigning NRLW Dally M medalist Olivia Kernick makes her return to the green and gold, alongside fellow NRLW and State of Origin big names Tamika Upton, Isabelle Kelly and Ali Brigginshaw.
Then at 3.00pm AEDT, the Premiership winning juggernaut that is the Penrith Panthers begin their drive for five straight titles, against the Cronulla Sharks.
Superstar Panthers playmaker Nathan Cleary will be out to shine brightest, but will be wary of a hungry Sharks team out to hunt the biggest fish in the NRL, with Nicho Hynes and enforcer Addin Fonua-Blake leading the way.
Karl Stefanovic will capture all the latest from the world famous strip in Vegas every morning including gameday on Today. The season premiere of Sunday sports panel show Wide World of Sports, hosted by Roz Kelly, will follow from 10.00am AEDT on Sunday, March 2.
In commentary exclusively on Nine for Panthers v Sharks is rugby league Immortal Andrew Johns, the most capped NRL player of all time Cameron Smith, and Mat Thompson, with Thurston, Gallen, Stefanovic and Danika Mason sideline. Interesting that Melbourne is getting both Vegas games on the main channel, even though Storm aren’t playing.
Forget that, Perth & Adelaide also have the “National” Rugby League on their main channel, something of a rare sight!
Western Reds and Adelaide Rams should be NRL teams 19 and 20.
Don’t Nine only have the rights to one game?
Think he was referring to the Jillaroos vs England and Panthers vs Sharks matches, not the Raiders vs Warriors which is exclusive to Fox League.
While where at it, bring back South Queensland Crushers!
Redcliffe took their spot as Brisbane 2.
They are, however, opting out of the 5.30pm post-match show. Postcards will air as usual to protect the 6pm News lead in.
I think the next team will be Perth. it adds another timezone for a game and there is an audiance. i was over there in June for work and had my Phins jersey on and had some great convos with people who knew the game, so there is a fanbase
Wrong thread and only PNG are getting a guernsey at the moment because PVL got taxpayers to fund it. PVL wants more taxpayers money, this time from WA, and gets his jollies from that much like Nick Politis does watching his NRLW players (and Channel 9 commentators) getting pregnant (see other thread).
Emma Lawrence back from her maternity leave as well.
According to The Sunday Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield, Peter V’Landys wants Karl Stefanovic to host his own rugby league show on Nine.
“It’s so evident in Vegas how popular Karl is with the fans,” V’landys said. “They love him.
“I think he’s the perfect person to be an ambassador for rugby league on Channel 9.”
First of all, Karl is a News Journalist not a sport presenter/journalist.
Second of all that’s a stupid decision to have Karl a own sport show. They should bring back NRL Footy Show on Thursday Nights and let James Bracey host it.
Very interesting to have studio audience. That’s great
A studio audience for the “Season Preview Show” (which looks like the same as The Sunday Footy Show) is different. The audience is a sign to come, or just a once off?
Also - the Thursday night Footy Show won’t return, since there’s an NRL match played on Thursdays, and the Footy Show will air “too late” (to air after the game these days).
