NRL on Nine

Women’s State of Origin is on the main channel for the first time in Melbourne tonight. I assume it must be a contractual requirement…

Psaltis commentated last night and is commentating again tonight.

Must mean Thompson is doing tomorrow afternoon and Sunday games?

Or it could be one game each for Speedy and Thompson.

Take note though, Speedy will be off the NRL coverage for a few weeks owing to French Open and Wimbledon commentary duties.

Odd to run the NSW one in Melbourne.

The blue logo would be better associated with Nine

They probably really should have a neutral promo.

Blue might be a Nine colour, but I think Victorians are more likely to support QLD, partly because of the NSW rivalry but also because most Storm players come through the Storm’s Brisbane feeder club.

Edit the end board then, unless the NSW one is actually generic of course.

Exactly, the Storm are essentially a QLD club and no one in Victoria would support NSW.

Shouldn’t they try and at least hide that the play by play commentators aren’t there rather than pulling Gus in on the panel?

The Queensland Maroons, unbeaten with coach Billy Slater at the helm, this year face a reshaped NSW Blues side under debut Origin coach Michael Maguire, entering the three-game series with a fresh approach.

Maguire has made some big selection decisions, appointing a new captain in Jake Trbojevic, bringing six debutants into an overhauled lineup that includes Panthers triple-premiership winning fullback Dylan Edwards, and entrusting Dally Medal winner Nicho Hynes with the crucial halfback position.

Queensland’s men in Maroon will roll with a familiar, star-studded backline that boasts the brilliance of Reece Walsh, captain Daly Cherry-Evans, Xavier Coates and Hamiso Tabui-Fidow, mixed with Australian international forwards Pat Carrigan, Reuben Cotter and Lindsay Collins

Interesting that 9Go! is being used - wonder if it will finally become the main overflow channel for sports.

I think it’s because the French Open is already on 9Gem.

Yes there is a small overlap with the tennis

Though 9Go is beginning to be used for some stand alone sports - Le Mans next week after some soccer this week.

Yes it doesn’t really matter anymore whether sport is on 9Go or 9Gem since both are in HD in most places.

In fact, I think the 9Go! brand is probably more suited to hosting sports than 9Gem anyway.
