That Nine Olympic watermark is offensively large
WWOS bug in Brisbane.
Yep it was a 30 second bug only
Ah ok. Looked away and missed it
See, I thought the opposite. The Tina cast were decent and made good use of the nighttime backdrop. It certainly didnât beat the original (and I believe the NRL will have a hard time ever topping it), but it was much better than some of the average performances they have had the last few years. KISS yesterday were fine, but the autotune and lip-sync were obvious and they werenât helped by the blazing sun.
Out of sheer curiosity, who would you have wanted to see perform?
An internationally recognized star. The NRL need to do better to be taken seriously.
Week 1 of finals played in suburban grounds undergoing renovations and now this. Theyâre just tacky, cheap and nasty. It needs to be more of an elite sporting organization.
KISS any day of the week for me, especially given theyâre on a farewell tour. The AFL got it right getting such a monumental act, I do think they shouldâve played one more song however Iâm not a KISS fan and the three they did play were instantly recognisable to a novice like myself.
Doubt theyâll use that other than tonight. Itâs so itâs very obvious to everyone watching and theyâll hope that it gets into highlights on the news elsewhere.
Kings of Leon would be great, if they are ever presented with the opportunity.
From the top of my head, weâve seen The Script (twice, in 2009 and 2012), Kelly Clarkson (also twice, in 2003 and 2011), Jessica Mauboy (at least twice, in 2010 and 2013), Ricky Martin (2013) and Train (2014) act as pre-game Grand Final entertainment (or in the case of The Script in 2009, half-time).
Bring back Billy Idol
You wonât get an argument from me on that. The COVID years have hampered things since OneRepublic in 2019, but I will say the AFL have done well getting Robbie Williams and KISS (on name brand alone) in the last two years.
I mean, they did play the three most well known hits. But it was also instantly recognisable that they were well past their prime.
They would be decent, but probably a few years too late now since they havenât been terribly relevant recently.
I have always thought that the Foo Fighters would also be a very good act, and that someone may have been looking at them last year before Taylor Hawkinsâ death (Iâm fairly sure they were due in the country around this time last year on tour).
Another act I was thinking of is Nickelback, theyâd definitely bring a rock-concert feel to the event. Havenât toured here since February 2019 while itâs also disappointing that they left Australia off their itinerary for their latest Get Rollinâ World Tour.
But I feel it doesnât have to be restricted to male rock bands - they could also get an international female star like Dua Lipa or Beyonce for example.
Fooies would be great, but theyâd be VERY expensive Iâd imagine.
In regards to the comparison between pre game acts.
The AFL do a great job in paying homage to its history - Mike Brady every year etc.
This year Tina Turner died. She brought another level to the rugby league in the early 90s - and she had a huge say in how it was to be marketed, taking a huge interest not only in the game but also with players.
To not pay respect to her this year, when the NRL had the perfect opportunity, would have been negligent on a massive level.
Paramount+ running promos for A League during the grand final on 9Now.
Why is some NBA star at the desk for half time??
Just aired on 9 as well.
At least the game was a ripper. Wasnât going for Penrith. Winning three does their arrogance no good. But at least it was a thriller at Accor.
At least Queenslanders can turn over and see the end of MKR. No need to watch the presentations. Lol
