It’s a special on Indigenous players, not a match broadcast.
Is 10:40 pm the only time it’s on?
Not sure. It will probably be on 9Now tomorrow.
Brenton Speed calling both games from the studio
Another Storm game next week to be shown on Nine’s main channel in Melbourne. Friday 4 August Panthers v Storm.
FWIW, AFL that night is Western Bulldogs vs Richmond at Marvel Stadium. That match will have a bearing on the finals with both teams still in contention for September.
Why were they using the analyser as a normal desk?
I see a Teamviewer tab in the corner there, that’s not normally there right?
No it wouldn’t be, but it shows how they do the screen.

Will be interesting to see how they cover the covering this round. Whether they mention it and bash the players like Fox do.
Brenton Speed calling the Storm v Eels game tonight (since Mat Thompson has swimming commentary commitments).
Peter Psaltis called last nights Broncos v Roosters game.
Brenton Speed just acknowledged main channel coverage of the Storm v Eels game in Melbourne (he said “normally on 9Gem”).
Interesting given Ashes 5th Test (now on 9Gem as a result) and the big AFL game between Collingwood and Carlton at the MCG is on 7 too.
There is clearly something in nines contract to show it on the main channel in Melbourne.
Unfortunately, they keep getting burnt as it doesn’t rate.
Agree, I’m guessing it’s X number of Storm games per year in Thu/Fri night prime time, and probably all finals games again this year too?
Nine’s channel selections in Melbourne tonight are bizarre
I heard this for 25 years, it does not rate primetime, it does not rate at Sunday Arvo. It does not rate at midnight on a Friday night back in early 2000’s. People need to give it a chance. Melbourne is not as big of a afl town as what is was. The only people who think it is naive diehard afl fan
I applaud for nine give Melbourne 2nd biggest average sport code a chance.
Btw I am writing after going to a storm game tonight
On a normal night I’d be inclined to agree (when they’d otherwise show some movie for the umpteenth time), but when the Ashes is on at the same time I’d argue that it should be given the priority, being undoubtedly the more popular event of the two in Melbourne.
That’s because it doesn’t rate against the AFL or Cricket in Melbourne… Last time it had 13k on the main channel, which isn’t sustainable or profitable. Clearly the Ashes should be on the main channel tonight in Melbourne.
