Thank you NRL Headquarters!
As much as I donât watch Saturday Arvo NRL, it was great to see Channel Nine televise a Saturday Afternoon NRL game (Storm v Panthers/Eels) for the first time. This will then provide a good lead-in to Nine News Sydney and Brisbane. Not sure about Melbourne viewers but I am leaning towards coverage on 9
Itâs not the first time. In the early years of the Storm, all games were played at Saturday 3pm and aired live into Melbourne on 9. The coverage was hosted by Michael Roberts.
I thought Micheal Roberts hosting that was on a Sunday, Not Saturday. I remember speaking to the programmer at that time and the only time Channel Nine said they would put on the âThe Rugbyâ(hes words) is game is Sunday afternoon game. I do not think Channel Nine did not broadcast a game on Saturday storm was in a final. Mind you I did spend nearly 20 year until digital waiting up to Midnight to watch a storm game. I still think Ray Hadley is pissed with the storm because the Storm had there own commentry in the Late 90âs-Early 2000âs with Arthur Higgins. Made the Sky Sports NZ comentary team on Warriors game very tame.
I think it was also a bit more with Ribot vs Hadley but that one of the reason 3AK had a commentaryâŚStill be the Best and most biased commentry and Helpped Rugby league a foothold in the Melbourne Market.
The stage is set for two massive eliminations this week as the road to the 2021 NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final intensifies.
The draw remains wide open as some of rugby leagueâs biggest stars collide in knockout semi-finals over two epic nights. Donât miss the sudden death blockbusters of the year LIVE on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Edit: Interestingly, that DOES appear to be correct after checking the Herald Sun TV Guide listing on their app. Must be due to no AFL Finals this weekend, Iâll be interested to see how it rates given the Storm arenât playing.
No, itâs on 9. I have seen multiple promos on GTV this week. They are looking to capitalise with no AFL or VFL on 7 in those slots. Viewers will also be able to watch the SANFL live on 7plus.
The Preliminary Finals will seal the fate of the top four teams in two blockbuster showdowns. An epic rematch of last yearâs grand final is on the cards as the mighty Storm set out to keep their premiership campaign alive, taking on the 2nd ranked Panthers. All eyes are also on the Sea Eagles who will be out for redemption after being knocked out of the 2019 finals series by the Rabbitohs. Interesting that Mat Thompson is calling the prime time game, but Ray Warren is doing the afternoon game. I thought it would have been the other way around.
