Thank you NRL Headquarters!
As much as I don’t watch Saturday Arvo NRL, it was great to see Channel Nine televise a Saturday Afternoon NRL game (Storm v Panthers/Eels) for the first time. This will then provide a good lead-in to Nine News Sydney and Brisbane. Not sure about Melbourne viewers but I am leaning towards coverage on 9

Will be a good lead in for Seven in Melbourne and Brisbane at 6pm

With no AFL games on, Nine are rolling the dice and giving sports fans something to watch.

It’s not the first time. In the early years of the Storm, all games were played at Saturday 3pm and aired live into Melbourne on 9. The coverage was hosted by Michael Roberts.

Thank you!!! I’m thrilled although I wasn’t expecting this to happen. Well done Storm, well done NRL

Being a Storm fan since the first game

I thought Micheal Roberts hosting that was on a Sunday, Not Saturday. I remember speaking to the programmer at that time and the only time Channel Nine said they would put on the “The Rugby”(hes words) is game is Sunday afternoon game. I do not think Channel Nine did not broadcast a game on Saturday storm was in a final. Mind you I did spend nearly 20 year until digital waiting up to Midnight to watch a storm game. I still think Ray Hadley is pissed with the storm because the Storm had there own commentry in the Late 90’s-Early 2000’s with Arthur Higgins. Made the Sky Sports NZ comentary team on Warriors game very tame.

If this is true then Hadley must be the only one who truly cares about something that 3AK broadcast in the late 1990s.

I think it was also a bit more with Ribot vs Hadley but that one of the reason 3AK had a commentary…Still be the Best and most biased commentry and Helpped Rugby league a foothold in the Melbourne Market.

Melbourne must be 9Gem, not Channel 9?

Edit: Interestingly, that DOES appear to be correct after checking the Herald Sun TV Guide listing on their app. Must be due to no AFL Finals this weekend, I’ll be interested to see how it rates given the Storm aren’t playing.

No, it’s on 9. I have seen multiple promos on GTV this week. They are looking to capitalise with no AFL or VFL on 7 in those slots. Viewers will also be able to watch the SANFL live on 7plus.

Tasmanian viewers will also get the NRL semi-finals live on WIN’s main channel on Friday and Saturday.

Main channel coverage in Melbourne was announced several days ago.

Eddie McGuire promoted Nine’s NRL coverage for this weekend during tonight’s episode of Footy Classified.

Major audio glitch there. Ray Warren repeated the same sentence 5 times in a row on a loop.

That sounds more like Gus Gould… had it been him, we wouldn’t have batted an eyelid!

Interesting that Mat Thompson is calling the prime time game, but Ray Warren is doing the afternoon game. I thought it would have been the other way around.
