It pushes Nine News Saturday in NSW, ACT and QLD out to 4.30pm (and 4pm NT!), that’s the earliest it’s ever been screened (same as this time last year too I think).
The NRL this afternoon announced the dates and times for the semi-finals and the preliminary finals, after the ARL Commission reached a deal with the Queensland Government to hold the remainder of the 2021 finals series in the Sunshine State.
Both semi-finals will be played in Mackay, and both preliminary finals will be held in Brisbane.
The grand final will be held at Suncorp Stadium on October 3, with kick-off at 6.30pm Queensland time (7.30pm AEDT).
Is the titans game not on nine today? Can’t see it on the TV guide
All finals are. Have you checked 9Gem or Go? Only Storm games and the Grand Final will be on 9 here in Melbourne.
Yep - all other Week 1 finals on 9Gem. Guessing all of next week’s games will be too with Storm heading into the Prelims (Week 3)
2021 NRL finals fixture (updated)
Week 2
Friday 17 September
Semi final 1: Manly v Sydney Roosters (BB Print Stadium, Mackay, 7.50pm AEST)
Saturday 18 September
Semi final 2: Penrith v Parramatta (BB Print Stadium, Mackay, 7.50pm AEST)
Week 3
Friday 24 September
Preliminary final 1: South Sydney v Manly or Sydney Roosters (Suncorp Stadium, 7.50pm AEST)
Saturday 25 September
Preliminary final 2: Melbourne v Penrith or Parramatta (Suncorp Stadium, 7.50pm AEST)
That means the Storm match will be directly up against the AFL Grand Final between the Demons and the Bulldogs.
I cannot believe why the Melbourne Storm preliminary final game is up against the AFL GF on that night. That will definitely take a Significant number of Melburnians away from watching the NRL. That night there are two Victorian Teams playing in the Grand Final. What they could have done is they could have scheduled a Friday night game for Melbourne Storm instead of a Saturday night.
Peter V’Landys is arrogant and doesn’t want to be seen as subservient to the AFL. The common sense decision would be to move the game to 4pm Saturday, 4pm Sunday or even Sunday night.
Or switch the Friday and Saturday night games over.
But yes, I’d prefer the Saturday night timeslot to be NRL free on this occasion for the AFL Grand Final.
Absolutely DISGRACEFUL from the NRL.
Given Melbourne finished 1st, surely they should be getting the extra day off (if/when they win)?
Exactly.
Anyway, as usual, bugger the AFL for scheduling the game for east coast evenings.
Looks like the NRL is moving the Storm prelim to 4pm next Sat after all.
Between this and the (much bigger IMO) NRLW debacle it’s turning into a big month for NRL’s PR team.
who was the moron who decided to go up against the AFL grand final, with a melbourne team who looked like playing the game? honestly, the only clue they have is a board game
Yep. That is an absolute shambles, especially with the NZ players across already and unable to get home.
The host broadcasters doing their PR work for the league as usual.
A real “Smart move” would’ve been to avoid this exact scenario when planning the fixture weeks (if not days) ago.
Finally, common sense prevails at NRL HQ!
It also means radio networks like the ABC, SEN and Triple M won’t have to choose between broadcasting NRL preliminary final or AFL Grand Final into Sydney on the night of September 25. Now they can do both.
