But should they really go for well-known names? I donât think so I would rather have some unknown that can do the job. IMO FOX has done exactly this.

The NRL announced the fixture for week 1 of 2021 finals this evening (kick off times in AEST). The slogan for this year is âDonât blinkâ.
The two qualifying finals are top notch in terms of quality of the match up. The NRL will be happy about that.
The NRL 1st Qualifying Final Melbourne Storm V Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles on Friday will now be shown on the main channel in Melbourne.
Channel Nine Melbourne has given the green light to screen the Storm-Sea Eagles Qualifying FInal on the primary channel. HOwever, this NRL game will go up against the AFL Preliminary Final between Melbourne-Geelong (from Perth Stadium) on that night. Highly doubt that the NRL match will rate 100k in Melbourne.
Yeah this match shouldâve been Saturday or Sunday arvo or even Thursday night so it doesnât go up against either AFL. Why donât the AFL and NRL work together especially with the Storm?!
Why would they? In a perfect world, yes, but they are competitors! If they were both on 7 then maybe, but sadly they wonât want to strengthen their opponents.
It is better for both to cooperate
How? From the NRLâs point of view, yes. But they are a competitor to the AFL.
It will be interesting to see if the NRL schedule a preliminary final in direct competition to the AFL Grand Final on the evening of Saturday 25 September
Apparently they are doing just that.
Which I think is wrong.
The last Saturday in September has always been the AFLs day. I would like to watch both and donât want to have to choose.
The problem is the knock-on effect doing that would have for Week 2:
- If the Storm played on Thursday and lost, they would have an unfairly longer break before their semi final clash than the winner of the Roosters/Titans elimination final.
- If the Storm played on Saturday and lost, moving Roosters/Titans to Friday means the winner of that game gets an advantage. If the Panthers/Rabbitohs qualifying final is moved to Friday instead, you would have the same problem I outlined in the previous dot point.
- If the Storm played on Sunday and lost, the Roosters/Titans winner would significantly longer to prepare than they would which doesnât make sense considering their ladder positions
A big weekend of NRL Qualifying and Elimination Finals coming up on Nine
