Wonder if SEN 1170 will bring the game or will they have to break for for the spirit of sport at 9pm? One would think they could broadcast the whole game  .

Edit according to the guide it looks like it has been deferred to 11pm.

TBH, I actually would’ve expected NRL Grand Final coverage to only be broadcast on the DAB+ version of SEN 1170 after 9pm with the AM frequency switching over to Spirit of Sport at that time!

Does SEN/2CH actually believe any ex-2CH religious followers still tune in to this sporting religion program?

I’d love to see the results of a feedback survey for SEN and 2CH listeners.

If we’re being realistic, Spirit of Sport probably only even exists because of NSW Council of Churches obligations!

It doesn’t matter who leads SEN NRL radio coverage, their share is unlikely to go much further than 1%.

Frank Hyde probably has a bigger share in heaven.

According to Nine’s press release (see NRL Free To Air TV Rights 2023-2027 (Nine) - #299 by Jeffmister) about their extension of TV rights until 2027, as part of the deal they have been able to switch 2GB and 4BC to the 4pm Sunday game for exclusive commercial radio rights in line with their TV rights. Previously 2pm Sunday was 2GB’s and 4pm was shared by Triple M and SEN/NRL Nation, so it looks like Triple M and SEN/NRL Nation are getting bumped to the 2pm Sunday game, with the possible exception of Triple M Brisbane for Broncos games.

Well done to Nine for making the effort for exclusivity on radio as 2UE once had for commercial calling rights.

I think exclusivity is bad (my personal opinion). I prefer multiple options particularly in commentary as people can get sick of particular announcers.

I think it’s a good thing for exclusive rights. A waste when you’ve got 4 stations broadcasting the same match. Especially when some of these stations should be broadcasting music.

Yes!

Exactly my point. The last thing radio needs is the same content across many stations.

Sydney radio is bad enough with Nova/Kiis/2DAY & to the west, Edge. Melbourne has the same wasteful triplication.

Also, some regional areas of NSW and QLD may miss out on the 4pm match altogether if their local station is not a relay station of 2GB’s Continuous Call Team.

The new partnership from 2023 to 2027 includes broadcast rights across the Triple M Network and LiSTNR, including:

• Exclusive commercial broadcast of four NRL Home and Away Matches each week
• State of Origin, Representative Matches and NRL Finals Series
• NRL Women’s Premiership, Nines and All Stars

SCA will also for the first time be able to broadcast in its Regional Markets, covering every home and away match for their local team.

Good to see regional areas get some radio competition when it comes to NRL coverage from 2023. But what does SCA mean by regional markets? It will be interesting to see if the new deal improve the radio coverage of Melbourne Storm matches in Victoria.

Does that mean towns like Dubbo will have 2DU and Triple M broadcast the same matches at the same time?

I don’t know if that’s a good thing if it’s the case.
