agree even radio talent have asked why they are finishing in November and starting early January when it’s dead
I suspect the survey dates are based around when the results are released, and therefore when sales staff need the latest info.
Currently the first survey is released around the 1st or 2nd week of March. That’s a long way into the year for sales teams to be showing the impact of new lineups etc, and over 3 months since the previous survey results. Starting the ratings later would push that back even further, or would mean a shorter survey period which would mean the survey might not be over enough weeks to show a consistent trend.
Likewise, by continuing the ratings later it would be reporting December listening in January which would have limited benefit. Who cares how the station did last year if there’s a new lineup which will perform differently. Same if listening habits changed in the lead up to Christmas.
While I agree that it would be better do me on air teams to be on air for more weeks to encourage regular listening patterns and build habits, I think the ratings data collected in these periods wouldn’t be of much benefit apart from general interest.
Yet that’s exactly the plan for 2026.
I’m surprised that ratings in January are of any real value with new lineups and mixed up listeners in the mix
Based on their latest Facebook post, Jase and Lauren are staying on air for another two weeks.
Great decision!
That’ll make it harder for Kyle & Jackie O to dominate Melbourne now.
Kyle & Jackie O Gone now til mid-January 2025
Jase & Lauren Sticking around for 2 more weeks
They (Nova) should be very proud of picking up Jase & Lauren and taking them to No.1 in the Melbourne radio ratings.
Credit to Jase & Lauren for their spectacular radio win. No credit to K&J who have bombed in the Victorian capital and turned off the remaining listeners who did tune into their show by broadcasting NSFW content.
You mean keep their 6 listeners
Who work at the Herald Sun and write up the latest comments Kyle makes about Melbourne
The only thing I’m worried about with them staying on is that they might come back a few weeks later than Kyle & Jackie O and Fifi, Fev & Nick. Lauren mentioned this week that she is going overseas after Christmas.
But perhaps not with the Australian Open, which is obviously a big Melbourne event, and Clint will be working on (and perhaps Lauren too) for Nine.
They did have a longer break for obvious reason’s, so they might be having a shorter break this summer.
It’s really becoming a battle between Nova100 and The Fox.
Fifi, Fev & Nick will be releasing updated podcasts over the holiday period which will help to keep their brand fresh over the break. And obviously a strategy to go head to head with Jase & Lauren remaining on air for longer.
And as usual, KIIS is too busy taking in summer vacay with their oversized budget to care
Jase and Lauren will broadcast live from Gumbuya World wildlife and theme park, south east of Melbourne, next Thursday morning (December 12). They are giving away 100 family passes which can be won by registering through the Win page on the Nova FM website.
Note: Gumbuya World will open its doors to the rest of the public at 11am that day.
