Nova Network

Looking here at the Terms and Conditions for Jase and Lauren’s $250,000 Hide & Seek competition:

Upon the (start of the competition) the Prize will be valued at AUD $250,000, and will decrease by AUD $1 for each second that passes after the Announcement.

So basically, if Jase and Lauren aren’t found within the first 24-hours, then $86,400 will be wiped from the $250,000. If they’re not found within 2.8 days, then the entire prize is gone.

Odd mechanic given that cash prizes for competitions usually go up (jackpot) rather than go down. Seems a little deceptive to refer to a competition as 'Nova’s $250,000 Hide & Seek with Jase & Lauren’ when it’s impossible for the $250,000 to actually be given away (unless someone miraculously finds Jase and Lauren in under one second).

That is incredibly dodgy!

I agree it is a bit “interesting”. Another key part is that it’s after the “Announcement” that it’s begun - which is at most, 24 hours after they move to the secret location.

It’s not specified in the rules, but hopefully that means they will slowly release tidbits of information in advance of “The Announcement” - so people could get it.

But seconds past is a wild way to deduct a bunch of cash.

Unless they’re dropping hints before the announcement - there is no practical way someone can win the full amount. The way they’ve advertised it has to be questionable

I’d say that’s the point?

There’s no doubt that Nova wants to minimise the payout, but thats irrelevant to the situation. You can’t advertise that the prize is $250k when you can’t win $250k

This one is just as good - you can only locate them between 6am and 6pm, but the value of the prize declines in the period between 6pm and 6am

The first valid entrant (in the sole and absolute discretion of the Promoter) to correctly identify the Secret Location and knock on the door of the Secret Location between 6:00am AEST and 6:00pm (Contesting Hours) AEST during the Promotion Period will be deemed the winner and awarded the Prize.

So they clearly go home and come back then?

This is all just so fake and nasty.

The T&C say:

representatives of the Promoter will move to the Secret Location and remain located at the Secret Location for the remainder of the Promotion Period

But that could be anyone - I suspect its a producer or someone in the off-air team though

Also, you’re deemed ineligible if you try to knock outside of the time too:

Any entrant who identifies the Secret Location and knocks on the door of the Secret Location outside the Contesting Hours will not be deemed a winner and will not be awarded a Prize, and will be ineligible for the Prize at a future date.

I’m pretty sure Kyle and Jackie O also did this game a few years ago? Brooklyn was “kidnapped” and listeners had to find him? I think.

Reverse of The Fugitive concept - but yep, not new.

I’m sure there have been all sorts of variations on it - it’s rare these days to have a truly new (and different) competition.

What the hell are Nova doing? Just when they do some cool things to get back on track, they do this.

Nova could get back on track by also eliminating the needless throwbacks, which I feel is diluting the station.

There’s a reason why they once had the slogan “Sounds Different” - it’s because they more often than not played songs not played on other stations.

What cool things have they done recently?

Brought back Nova Nation with dance hits and club classics on Friday and Saturday nights. Playing more Fresh Hits.

See Nova confuses me.

I think it wants to be young and fresh and play all the latest hits but all of its hosts are at least 30 and over. It’s odd to me.

For example Capital FM in the UK move their talent on when they reach a certain age.

I’ve looked at the presenters list. All young and fresh, early 20’s or there about.

Isn’t that what a “cool” hit music station should be about?

Why are we people in their 40’s doing hit music?

All young people!

From my assessment, most radio stations have 30 year plus presenters?

I guess Nova Country will be on DAB in Brisbane to replace Nova Nation on 48kbps, which will mean they don’t have to pay royalties.

I would have thought Smooth Country would have been a better fit for a Country format and Nova Alt or Nova 2000s would have been better for Nova. Oh well.

Then again KIIS are doing the same with Kyle Sandilands in his 50s and Jackie O almost there too.
