Nine (WIN)

Could this lead to a breach of competition laws?

Would not broadcasting at all be a technical breach?

Well there was no action taken when channel ten in Mildura closed as far as I could see

The ACMA knew that MDV was going to hand back the licence when MDV ceased broadcasting, so no action was needed & the same will occur when 7 goes off-air In Mt Gambier, Riverland & Griffith.

In Bairnsdale VIC tonight, in the afternoon news, Brett McLeod announced around 4.30 “this is where we say goodbye to regional viewers, your next bulletin is WIN News at 5.30” but we saw the next couple of news items and the throw to ad break and then Tipping Point started.

Does this normally happen? Not sure if it was Nine or WIN that mistimed that one?

I’m just a bit irate to realise that regional viewers find out if the jackpot counter drops over the tipping point half an hour before we do…

Hope you’re enjoying God’s country down there

Was it a “Coming up next” summary of stories that will be shown after the ad break? That seems to be common based on old montages uploaded to YouTube.

There were a couple of extra news items and the “Coming Up” bit after Brett said the goodbye to regional viewers. There was a bit of a pause after he said the goodbye too.

Yeah, it’s pretty good because I can watch half an hour of TP before going to The Chase and then just flicking between the two for half an hour before finishing up with the Chase and finally ending the session with Nightly News > 7 Tasmania (just wanted to write that for potentially the last time if it changes next week).

Which it probably will. They already teased the rebrand by accident in a report about the Humpty Dumpty Foundation last month.

I noticed that the placeholder “new channel” is still on channel 84 in Canberra, a year later. Therefore, I think WIN TV has forgotten about the placeholder. Surely they could’ve changed it on 1 July?

At this point, I’d say it’ll probably be there untill the current deal expires, or Brucie dies.

They’re not going to do anything with it and we may very likely see Channel 84 being switched off rather than a new channel being launched.

Can I suggest this for the placeholder channel?

Sure, why not?

I’d be shocked if WIN actually went to the effort of turning the channel off instead of leaving it operational but blank.

It’s already been sitting there for 12 months

The new channel coming soon slide came on the night Mildura Digital Television went off air I’d rather watch this on the screen.

Surely they could pen a cheap deal with someone like ACCTV or another national community station.

I imagine they would be willing to have their content shown on a larger scale and would probably do it for quite cheap, possibly cheaper then setting up GOLD2 again.

The Aurora channel is a community channel on Foxtel could be a perfect opportunity for Aurora to get on FTA.
