Nine (WIN)

Attn: Deaf people who lives in WIN areas in regional areas. If they are getting WIN HD and expecting to see subtitles on WIN HD, forget it, the new channel on 80 doesn’t obtain subtitles. So in order to watch subtitles on WIN they must watch the SD one on 8 or 81.

If the cap that TV Cynic posted of Today is anything to go by, the quality of WIN HD might be alright!

It actually looks even better than that cap on my TV.
It is definitely the best quality of TV channel we have here in North QLD. I’m very impressed

Yes, even here in regional Central Qld, the picture quality on WIN HD is the best of all the channels we have here.

It will be very interesting to see the quality of SC10 HD when it arrives in the future and also the ABC’s version of HD .

7HD the next for up here … whenever they announce it.

7 need to hurry up with getting 7HD to air in my opinion.

I’m normally a sunrise viewer.
But after testing WIN HD this morning, i turned back to 7 and couldn’t stand how bad the SD looked after having just watched WIN HD, and decided to watch the Today show instead.

With Today now in HD on the 9 Metro, 9NBN and WIN markets. This surely has to have an effect on the ratings for Sunrise!

Will be great when all the main channels have HD quality like Win HD/Nine HD is currently.

Don’t remember back in 2008 or so, the HD looking this good in MPEG2 on any of the main channels. Or maybe there was just less content in HD .

SCOne and 7 mate don’t look as good now. They look better than SD but not as sharp as Win HD.

And if it wasn’t for compatibility reasons for MPEG-2 only viewers, at the bitrates WIN HD or 9HD are currently transmitting at, we could easily have four HD channels per broadcaster, meaning all of the non-niche/infomercial channels in HD.

Can a high bitrate HD channel in MPEG-2 look as good as a high bitrate HD channel in MPEG-4 ?

I understand that NBN TV has a Facebook page, does WIN TV also have a Facebook page? Not WIN news but I mean the WIN TV one?

Yes, it can. I remember when HD first started before the multichannels came along, bitrates were up to around 14 or 15 Mbps, plus 6 Mbps for the SD channel and 1 or 2 Mbps for the VPG.

They have a Twitter page apparently but I’ve never seen an official Facebook page for WIN TV .

I wonder if Nine HD has subtitles and or if they know about the lack of them.

WIN HD looks amazing, 9life looks pretty sharp as well. As does GEM which is still in 4:3?

Yes NBN has a Facebook page. NBN also has an NBN TV Twitter which they seemed to stop using late last year but they still constantly use their NBN News Twitter.

Thanks, I sent a message alerting them of the subtitle problem on win HD. I think it will be like this for a while until the dust settles in a week or so when WA is the last state to receive the new channels

The rollout of WIN HD and 9Life to Tasmania, SA & Griffith has been delayed until tomorrow:

Wow what a surprise!! This has been a complete dogs breakfast. Do Win techs know a phillips head from a pair of pliers?!

“Complete dogs breakfast”? Checked out Seven lately?

At least Win has been trying. Getting it ready in just over 3 months rather than say 6 months.

I say congratulations to the WIN engineers for getting WIN HD to the majority of their viewers so soon after the affiliation imbroglio. It wouldn’t have been an easy exercise and I thought it would be many months away. So some viewers have a one day wait. They’ve waited this long so one day won’t make much difference.

Technical stuff ups suck and normally I’d have a good old bitch about it, but WIN gets a free pass in my book. They’re the only regional network giving viewers what they want.
