Nine (WIN)

You’d think Sky News on WIN will likely be at more than 0.8mbps when it’s running full programming rather than just a placeholder loop? Because it’s pretty shocking to think it’s currently got less bandwidth allocated than TVSN (which has almost twice as much as SNoW) or GOLD!

I’m thinking a switch to MPEG 2 tomorrow with associated need to increase bitrate substantially plus for Gold and TVSN to drop their bit rates.

If you have a close look at the figures in northern NSW you’ll see that 9Go 9GEM and 9Life combined outrates WIN’s main channel most weeks.

Now thats embarrasing

It’s also the same story in Regional QLD and also in Regional WA, even with just 9Go & 9Gem in the case of the latter.

In fact, One nearly outrates WIN’s main channel in Regional WA, especially in the week of 19-25 August, in which there’s only less than 1% difference between the two.

A lot of the multi-channels rate very high in Regional WA. 35 percentage points between the six multi-channels of GWN7, WIN and WDT. That includes WIN 11 which rates lower in Regional WA than in other markets.

Except of course the JV’s and solus markets they operate. No embracing there! Hypocrites.

I think WIN needs their massive watermark on Ten News so we know what station we’re watching

Don’t say that, WIN would be likely to put it over the face of the presenters

I wonder how different the TV landscape in Northern NSW (and the rest of Australia) if TWT had of purchased NRN11/RTN8 at the same time that TWT purchased DDQ0/SDQ4 - including the outcome of events such as the 2007 and 2015-16 affiliation negotiations with Nine, plus who would have been the current owner of NBN TV, given the arrangements with WIN at the time of the Nine purchase of NBN TV

Not sure if it has been mentioned before. WIN has closed its Toowoomba production unit with three employees deciding to leave the broadcaster.

Looking at the Regional TAM ratings, and it’s interesting to see how Sky News on WIN rates in various regional markets over September & into early October.

Regional QLD is, by far, the best performing market for Sky News on WIN, often rating above ABC News channel. The channel performs quite poorly in all other regional markets, in which ABC News channel rates well ahead of Sky News on WIN.
