Nine (WIN)

I thought that the system initially rely on the profile that you had set up, so that if WIN was ever part of the playout, the appropriate Nine or WIN outlet for your profile you be provided. I agree that there would only be a small number who would set up a false profile/location. Nine always said that it was part of their strategy with 9Now to know who was using the system so they could better sell their programs to advertisers.

Yeah I think that’s how it’s done now. I’m saying it can go one better and force a GPS location from the user first, then as a fail safe use the profile’s postcode. If WIN was to be part of 9Now and they wanted to make sure users weren’t defecting to Nine’s streams, this method would be the best. Most technically illiterate users would just turn their GPS location on and watch their local WIN without even thinking there’s other streams available.

My IP always says im in the heart of Sydney or Penrith, and im in a regional area. I put in a Melbourne postcode for 9now but it still shows me the NSW feed. If you change your location to Victoria then it shows Vic stream. Also what about all those links for the different feeds to watch anywhere if you can view it in this thread. Seems like a big waste of time by WIN but that’s there choice.

On another topic how will 9 feel about WIN when there 6 month deal ends in June just 2 months before going to court. Can’t make another affiliation deal easy to do with all this fighting.

I think there hoping the reach rule will be gone by then.

Yeah should make things interesting.

i Just saw on wins main channel say Habibs on win if you miss it catch up on 9now so why would win be advertising it if their taking 9 to court lol

Urgh, I hate the fact that the Coming Soon marker and the WIN HD logo are completely out of alignment.

Could it be possible that win could launch win HD in time for the NRL season first in Queensland and NSW to appease the NRL fans in win tv regional areas?

Maybe they’re aiming for that as their live date.

Seriously, though, this is all about putting themselves in the prime seat when a) the reach rules are lifted, and b) when their current supply contract is up with Nine.

If they’ve spent all the time and effort to get WIN HD and 9Life up and running, with all the MPEG-4 issues that entails, it just serves as a reminder about the complications that would come about if Nine decided to purchase SCA instead.

It will be very difficult, and one big mess indeed.

On 9 now I’d much rather nine and win come to a agreement on 9 now, win to drop the court case. Let 9 now stream in the regions but with a condition that win put local news in the regions where 9 now is streamed and in win tv areas.

If win and nine can come to an agreement on tv rights then I feel it’s reasonable that win and nine come to an agreement on 9 now streaming rights.

Otherwise regional viewers would suffer as usual.

Does this mean 9life will be HD being on mpeg4? WIN HD looks like it will be ready by March 3rd the first NRL match of the season.

surly they could have promos running for now rather then just the board their got currently?

Has Win ever been in HD in the early to mid 2000’s ?

I do know that it ran limited HD programing with just a demo loop most of the day before the launch of GO!, then the “rebuilding” placeholder loop/slide before fulltime programing started before the launch of GEM in October 2010, but I’m not sure if WIN HD was ever a fulltime simulcast of the main channel in native HD.

I remember they showed breakaway programming in HD. They covered the 9hd logo up big surprise. Looked pretty good they showed a cricket match on HD as well but I don’t think they had any commercials.
