Nine Tennis Coverage

Maybe, given 9GO! will be used several times during the year for sporting coverage, when there is overflow from Nine’s main channel and 9Gem (e.g. live NRL versus Wimbledon in mid year). The problem is whether Nine has enough spectrum to set up a HD channel for 9GO!.

No need for simulcasts, just change it to HD
The relatively few people who can’t pick up the HD channels yet need a little push to join in the fun of watching 20 year old repeats in glorious HD

Walked through Melbourne park yesterday, and saw that the WWOS set has finished being built ahead of the AO. Didn’t notice any international broadcasters, are they usually viewable from the public, I have never been to the tennis.

The media compound was usually built in the car park behind Rod Laver Arena. For AO 2022 the compound is located behind John Cain Arena (multipurpose venue).

They did that last AO (for obvious reasons). There was talk that they were giving up AO rights

Can anyone confirm if 9 are using both Mc Enroe and Courier in commentary, or is Mc Enroe staying in USA again during the Aus Open?

I thought it was (also?) located near Garden Square, under the entrance, where most of those above-ground OB studios are, including previously Seven’s. I have walked past there before, with giant blue compound-like walls/doors with many media crew walking in/out. However, that all could’ve just been for the studio set-up only.

Former Seven digital chief Clive Dickens shared publicly in 2018 a photo of Seven’s (or the host broadcaster) main control room from before Day 1, not sure where that would’ve been located. And it’s the same control room that Optus did a ‘behind the scenes’ with then EP Nick Barrow in 2012 on YouTube.

RE: overseas broadcasters / host positions. I actually forgot to check / ask what occurred last summer (coronavirus affected and save for a miracle most likely in some form this summer too) in terms of if they came to Melbourne Park or not.

Late to the party but yes, this.
Remove the 9Gem SD channel too.

Can you please tell me why the ATP Cup isn’t on Nine at night? I thought the ATP Cup would get a bigger audience if it was on the primary channel in prime time.

Nah, warm up tournaments generally don’t rate unless it’s an Aussie doing well. That’s coming from someone who watches it non-stop

Also in the second week of the Australian Open, why does Nine stop showing matches simultaneously on Gem?

Because there aren’t enough matches.

Not enough matches & that doubles matches (including wheelchair/junior tournaments) wouldn’t drive a big audience compared to the singles draw
