James is good when solo. TJ goes off on too many tangents when solo. Didn’t like his live tennis player interviews either.
However Alicia would be good. Probably a good role to boost the profile a little considering we are not far away from Hitch retiring and taking the 6pm Chair Mon-Fri
I rather see Nine continuing to use TA’s graphics because it demonstrates their close relationship with Tennis Australia compared to Seven (who used their own graphics) For Roland Garros, Wimbledon & US Open expect them to use each grand slams respective graphics as they did this year.
Aus Open entry deadline should be midday Monday US eastern time (4am Tuesday AEDT).
Surely wouldn’t be a problem with it being a Nine gig - and just a case of her own weekend summer stand in doing a couple of weeks more to enable it once she finishes up filling in on weeknights.
ATP Cup 2022 draw was held in Sydney this afternoon with the teams drawn by Mark Philippoussis and John Fitzgerald. Here are the groups.
The schedule will be released tomorrow (December 8 ) with matches to be played at Ken Rosewall Arena and Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney Olympic Park.
Australia will host Hungary in next year’s Davis Cup qualifying round, for one of the 12 spots in the finals. The round will be played from March 4 to 5 and will be shown live on Nine Network.
Djokovic is on entry lists for ATP Cup and Australian Open. Being on the entry list of the Australian Open doesn’t confirm those players have yet fulfilled medical requirements to actually play in the event. Keep an eye out on any potential withdrawals the next few weeks. I believe first charter flights for players coming to Australia are due December 15 and 16.
Federer, Pella, Wawrinka, and Serena Williams, Andreescu not on the Australian Open entry lists announced today that would have been direct entries based on ranking had they entered.
Please tell me what are your thoughts regarding this. The ATP Cup is fine on Gem as people are still on holidays early in January.
I think the Australian Open should be on Channel Nine and on 9Gem for the whole two weeks. Schedule a few disability and doubles finals on 9Gem but all of these matches on 9Now.
This would free up Channel Nine to air the mens and then the ladies singles finals in the afternoon and then in prime time. This would allow Nine to screen their 6pm news in the middle of the two finals for each Saturday and Sunday.
After the AO, my idea is Nine should screen the following up tennis tournaments on 9Gem. But when nothing is on, air the matches on Thursdays, Fridays and Sunday nights on the primary channel.
The world’s best tennis players are setting their sights for Australia in a massive Summer of Tennis beginning on January 1 and you can catch all the action across Channel 9, 9Gem, 9Go ! and 9Now.
Legends of the game and the rising generation of young players snapping at their heels will soon be lining up to begin their preparations for the first Grand Slam title of the year, the Australian Open.
Nine’s Summer of Tennis starts with the ATP Cup in Sydney, live from January 1, where 16 countries will compete in teams for the trophy as well as national pride.
It continues with a new one-off tournament, the Sydney Tennis Classic, a combined men’s and women’s event, to be played January 9-15.
The action also swings to South Australia for the Adelaide International, a favourite with players the world over, from January 3 to 15. Across two events, male and female stars of the game will be eager to take home these trophies in the crucial lead-up to the Australian Open.
Meanwhile the southern capital, the home of sport in Australia, will host Melbourne Summer Set from January 4 to 9, a series comprising three more international tournaments – two for women and one for men – at Melbourne Park.
After this tantalising build-up, the main event – the Australian Open – begins on Monday, January 17. The 2022 Open promises to be another blockbuster, with tennis fans craving what the opening Grand Slam of the year always delivers: 14 days filled with big names, thrilling matches and great stories. And you will be able to watch every match of the AO live and free on Channel 9, 9Gem , and streamed on 9Now .
Plus, Stan Sport, the home of Grand Slam tennis, will stream every match of the Australian Open and the pre-tournaments ad-free, live and on-demand.
Summer of Tennis sizzles on Nine live and free from Saturday, January 1.
The ATP Cup 2022 schedule was released today.

Australia, which is in Group B alongside Russia, Italy and Austria, play all of their group matches in the night session, which will be shown live on 9Gem.
Sunday January 2: Italy v Australia (Ken Rosewall Arena)
Tuesday January 4: Russia v Australia (Qudos Bank Arena)
Thursday January 6: Austria v Australia (Ken Rosewall Arena)
Why on earth are they playing tennis at Qudos Bank Arena… wow
Might be wrong about this but it seems like while Stan Sport will offer every match from the Summer of Tennis, 9Now will only provide extra streams for the Australian Open. While it’s not surprising, it would mark a shift from previous years where 9Now was the extra streams ‘hub’ for all the tournaments.
Yeah, looks like it. Will be getting Stan Sport in Jan by the looks of it.
A lot more of the warm up events shown on Nine’s channels than I was expecting
Why on earth are they playing tennis at Qudos Bank Arena… wow
There’s no real 2nd show court at the Tennis centre in Sydney
Then their facilities aren’t up to scratch then
Then their facilities aren’t up to scratch then
They wouldn’t need in a normal year. Whether that would be the atp cup or if they were hosting a regular tournament
Are you sure coverage on 9Gem will continue into the second week?
Is it time for 9Go! to simulcast in HD?
