Stan Sport will have multiple court coverage in the first 8 days of the tournament.

I am sure they will plug it quite a bit on their coverage!

Wouldn’t be surprised if sometimes the ‘biggest’ match at any given time isn’t the one necessarily shown on Nine’s coverage in order to provide a ‘hook’ for viewers to get Stan Sport. While that will naturally happen sometimes when an Aussie player is in action (which you would think Nine will show), think there might be some strategic choices at other times.

The Tennis Channel sometimes does a similar thing during their French Open coverage to promote their OTT ‘Tennis Channel Plus’ service considering that grand slam is the only one they have ‘broad’ rights for (ESPN has exclusive live coverage of the Australian Open, Wimbledon & the US Open)

Roland Garros 2021

STARTS SUNDAY ON CHANNEL 9, 9GEM & STAN SPORT

STARTS SUNDAY, MAY, 30 AT 6.30PM ON 9GEM
WITH EVERY MATCH OF THE TOURNAMENT STREAMING LIVE AND AD-FREE ON STAN SPORT

The second tennis Grand Slam tournament of the year will be broadcast live and free on Channel 9 and 9Gem when the 125th edition of Roland Garros in Paris starts this Sunday.

Our exclusive coverage commences at 6.30pm on 9Gem each night of the tournament, before switching across to Channel 9 later in the evening.

Plus, every match of the tournament will stream ad-free, live and on demand on Stan Sport, bringing subscribers all the action from every court.

The hallowed outdoor clay courts of Roland Garros will host the sport’s finest, with the long-awaited return of Roger Federer , hoping to deny defending champion Rafael Nadal from securing his 14th French Grand Slam title.

Poland’s Iga Świątek , 19, is looking strong in the hunt for back-to-back women’s titles after claiming the Italian Open on clay earlier this month.

Australia will be eagerly watching as our world No. 1, Ash Barty , returns to Roland Garros for the first time since winning in 2019. Following a strong performance at the Australian Open and a great season on clay, Barty is after her second Grand Slam title.

Second-highest ranked female Aussie, Ajla Tomljanović , will be joined by Astra Sharma , a wildcard entry, in her third consecutive year at Roland Garros.

Serena Williams is set to play after a three-month hiatus since the Australian Open. The 23-time Grand Slam and three-time Roland Garros champion will continue her quest for a 24th major title.

The Australian men will be out in force, headed by Alex de Minaur and John Millman , both of whom are ranked in the world’s Top 50.

The youngest Aussie in the draw, 21-year-old Alexei Popyrin (No. 62), is coming off a fine performance at the Australian Open where he upset world No. 13 David Goffin in the first round.

Jordan Thompson and James Duckworth round out our men’s contingent, joined by wildcard entry Chris O’Connell .

Calling the action on Channel 9 and 9Gem will be Roz Kelly , Todd Woodbridge , Sam Groth , Jelena Dokic , Brett Phillips and Clint Stanaway .

It all begins on Sunday at 6.30pm on 9Gem. Programming will switch to Channel 9 at 10.10pm.

Glad that the French Open is only a few nights away. And earlier than what SBS did in previous years.

Does Sunday’s main coverage start at 11.10pm (in what’s still on the EPG), or at 10.10pm going from that article posted?

4.30pm is the preview coverage

Main Channel Coverage is 10.10pm, or 11.10pm? As in Nine. Not Gem.

You asked ‘main coverage’ not ‘main channel coverage’.

Naomi Osaka will not be doing after match interviews, to “protect (her) mental health,” she has announced. This means big fines which she is aware of, and cheekily says she hopes the money from the fines will “go towards a mental health charity.”

Any word on who’s hosting from the studio? Todd Woodbridge?

Unfortunate there’s no Kyrgios, always a popcorn and ratings drawcard. But regardless, if Aussies are doing well and there’s a fairly good time zone, viewers will watch. Interesting to see how this’ll all go, a bigger, commercial network (no offence to SBS) is also a bonus.

Is this a new studio?

It’s just the WWOS Melbourne studio isn’t it? Used for football among other things.
