Nine Tennis Coverage

See. I disagree. I think seven did innovate - multi channels, the in screen notification of all matches on at he time (not just the ones on centre court), all courts online etc. intimately what led Tennis Australia was the $$$. Same with the cricket and then following the big bucks.

The coverage so far seems good. I am enjoying the pre show and the staging seems really vibrant. The real test will be to see how they go managing all the matches going on around the ground etc.

Erin Molan is hosting 9Gem coverage, while James Bracey continues on the main channel

Was that enough though? 9Now has plenty of streams and integration online so that proves Nine is innovating as well. Plus I would assume Multi-channels are also doing their jobs. It looks like Nine is doing what Seven did, plus more.

Hosting with Sam Groth.

Seven barely had a studio in recent years with their obsession of close up shots of the host. There seems to be a better quality of coverage from nine.

On a side note: who are the current commentators on 9Gem?

7 did the same thing with the 7Tennis app, I don’t get the 9 bias, let’s see how they cover the matches today first.

A studio creates great atmosphere, I agree. But I don’t think that is the only thing that makes coverage look good.

As many said, let’s hope their commentary matches the calibre of their presentation.

Whats the font that is being used for the Graphics?

I quite like it.

I agree with this. Seven did this with the Winter Games and Commonwealth Games too. I think they missed a trick with the home commonwealth games by not having a studio or based from either Surfers, Broadbeach or Carrara.

I like the concept but I don’t like where it’s located. If you get rid of the AO sign behind the presenter, you basically have a generic Melbourne skyline backdrop.

The studio needed to be located in a more central position (eg; near RLA or MCA)

I wouldn’t call offering court streams ‘innovation’. Rather, it’s availability is an minimum expectation based on Seven offering it the past few years

Not to mention the Olympics. But we’re moving off topic.

I would love to see Nine’s commentary to be rather dumbed down and simple (like the BBC) rather than commentators talking all over. One of my pet peeves with Seven’s commentary is Hamish McLachlan (yikes) and Basil Zempilas (no hate for the guy) shoving pointless commentary down our throats, even though their ‘knowledge’ of tennis is only summarising what’s happening rather than analysing. Leave the commentary for the experts.

Interesting (at least for Day 1 - we’re yet to see if Nine will rotate hosts each day like during the lead-ups), but they’ve opted for their arguably two biggest Sydney sports talent in Bracey and Molan to anchor the morning/arvo, with probably the lowest audience? Even if it dominates day time TV.

Not that that means anything, but with Bracey’s NRL/NRL GF/SOO hosting gig and I’ve seen now how he does quite a good job, I half expected him to handle the national prime time shift.

Cameron Williams?

was Eddie McGuire heading the coverage at any point?

I would think seeing the Aus Open is in Melbourne that Melbourne talent would be prioritize to head the coverage. The same thing annoys me with the Carols Xmas Eve- Nine bring Sydney Presenters to host it even though Melbourne talent would do just as good job.

Not true. Nine is offering live streaming of every court and every match. Seven’s tennis app only ever offered half a dozen matches at best.

9Now is a tennis fanatic’s dream!

Not true - 7’s app offered the same amount of matches/courts as Nine are currently streaming

Not true.

I’m guessing Rebecca Maddern hosting the evening? I guess it makes sense with her national profile hosting Ninja Warrior.

so is 9 takking the womens matches and is 9gem taking the mens??
