Commentator Sean Maloney lost his voice (in fact he never really had it from the top of the broadcast) and withdrew 20 minutes into the Force v Chiefs game last night in Perth. Andrew Swain subbed in to replace him.
I don’t follow SRP: is Swain a usual caller?
He’s usually their second-choice PBP guy, but is also a producer for their coverage as a whole I believe.
So would have been about in Sydney for the call. I always wonder what would happen if it happened at a venue and the expert had to call.
Note:
The Charter Hall Shute Shield will feature across 9GEM in NSW and 9NOW nationally with one game per week broadcast live including the finals series. Stan Sport will feature five games per week and the finals series.
Something similar happened to SEN during COVID when they had a positive test at their Melbourne studios and had to quickly arrange to have things called from the Adelaide studio. A commentator who was unfamiliar with the building got lost coming back from the toilet at half time and the expert had to call the game while a producer searched the building. The commentator returned part way through the third quarter.
that’s amazing. Was it ever covered anywhere?
Shute Shield starts Saturday. All games this week have a 3pm kickoff and will be on Stan. Easts V Norths will also be on 9Gem in NSW.
Hospital Cup in Queensland has a similar arrangement (although I think that competition started last week). GPS V Brothers gets the 9Gem simulcast in QLD.
Sorry, missed your reply. Other than during the broadcast, I don’t think so.
As the new logo shows, Shute Shield has a new sponsor in Blue Crane Capital this year.
Wallaroos v Black Ferns
Sunshine Coast Stadium will host the historic ANZAC Day clash between these two fierce rivals. This match serves as the opening fixture of the O’Reilly Cup and the final round of the Pacific Four Series. Kick off at 7:55PM AEST.
Check local guides when available.
As posted in the Nine’s Programming Topic, looks like the Super Rugby is returning to our screens (of 9Gem). Is this the first game of the season to return on FTA?
Stan Sport will take Sky’s coverage of the Super Round, live from the brand new One New Zealand Stadium in Christchurch from Friday to Sunday.
Each match will feature Sky’s leading Super Rugby commentary and analysis team, including Jeff McTainsh, Justin Marshall, Mils Muliaina and Jeff Wilson. They will be joined by experts from Stan Sport including Sean Maloney, Morgan Turinui and Tim Horan, with Stan taking Sky Sport’s feed for the entire round.
This is alongside presenters Laura McGoldrick and Kirstie Stanway, with roving contributions from Joey Wheeler.
Morgan Turinui is a guest contributor on tonight’s Breakdown produced by Sky Sport NZ.
They are live from the all new One NZ Stadium ahead of tomorrow’s Super Round.
What graphics package is Nine/Stan using tonight?
Is it a variant of the Sky Sports NZ package?
If it’s the same as their usual SR package then yes.
I saw a stylised title during the Welcome To Country that had the Stan Sport logo to the LHS of it which I was surprised as I thought it was a shared feed between Nine/Stan and Sky
