Fortunately, there will be a Match of the Round of the shield on FTA during the season from next year.

While the Lions tour is in progress we should not forget the Australian women’s team, the Wallaroos.

Stan Sport showed the Wallaroos’ loss to New Zealand in Wellington this evening. The Wallaroos’ two test series against Wales (in Ballymore on July 26 and in North Sydney on August 1) will also be on Stan.

THE PRIDE PICKS A SIDE.

LIONS AT TARONGA ZOO PREDICT THE WINNER OF FIRST BRITISH & IRISH LIONS TOUR TEST MATCH

The ultimate showdown just got wilder! Stan Sport has unleashed a one-of-a-kind prediction piece where real-life lions put their paws on the line to forecast the winner of the first Wallabies vs. British & Irish Lions Test match, kicking off this Saturday 19 July at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.

In a captivating encounter blending the raw power of the animal kingdom with the thrill of rugby, the majestic lions were presented with two tempting piles of ‘milkcicle’ treats — each decked out in the colours of the competing teams.

As the big cats made their choice, Wallabies stars Joseph Suaalii, Andrew Kellaway and Angus Bell were on hand to witness the prediction unfold, alongside Stan Sport legends, former Wallaby and 2001 Lions Tour veteran Matt Burke and commentator Sean Maloney.

Returning to Australia for the first time since 2013, The British & Irish Lions Tour is one of the most anticipated events on the global rugby calendar with more than 50,000 international fans set to descend down under.

Having already swept aside the Brumbies, Waratahs, Reds, and the Invitational AU & NZ side to remain undefeated, the Lions are now primed for an epic Test series showdown.

Taking place against a resurgent Wallabies side this Saturday at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium, two more Tests will follow at Melbourne Cricket Ground (26 July) and Sydney’s Accor Stadium (2 August).

The 2025 British & Irish Lions Tour headlines a blockbuster lineup of rugby on Stan Sport over the coming months including the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, The Rugby Championship, Bledisloe Cup, Rugby SVNS, Super Rugby Aus and the Autumn Nations. Stan Sport is also Football’s New Home with the Premier League, Emirates FA Cup, NWSL and J.League kicking off from August 2025.

Sean Maloney is the worst play by play commentator in living memory. The coverage is ruined. He is just terrible. It’s a shame because I was keen to watch. I am no longer interested.

That’s a bit harsh. I think he does a good job and brings a fresh energy to Rugby and has good co-commentators in Tim Horan and Morgan Turinui as well as Burke and Hooper on the sidelines.

Wallabies-Lions free-to-air ratings dwarfed by Origin figures

Rugby union’s TV ratings on Channel 9 for the opening Test match of the Wallabies v British and Irish Lions series were annihilated by State of Origin.

Rugby union’s TV ratings on Channel 9 were a disaster for the opening Test match of the Wallabies v British and Irish Lions series on Saturday night, annihilated by State of Origin.

Despite a full house at Suncorp Stadium, the game attracted an average audience of only 861,000 on Channel Nine’s free-to-air and streaming service 9Now.

It is a huge setback for Rugby Australia, an organisation that was hoping not just for a financial windfall from the British and Irish Lions tour but that it would be a series to attract record TV eyeballs to support their corporate partners.

The overnight rating was lower than quoted in the article

  1. That phrase is overused
  2. I’m not sure anyone was expecting the TV ratings to rival Origin? Union isn’t on the same scale in Australia as NRL

Good lord, the state of media is awful

And conversely RU has shattered records and NRL before, albeit once in a blue moon, taking a magical match-up and event.

Not sure the comparison should be even made here. Typical News Corp nonsense.

I reckon 861,000 is the sum of TV audience (772,000) + 9Now streaming audience (89,000).

Actually News Corp dedicated substantial editorial coverage to the Lions series. Using Herald Sun as an example, there was a full page of reports last Friday, an 8-page liftout on Saturday (the day of the first test in Brisbane), a two-page report in the second edition of Sunday Herald Sun yesterday, and another full page in today’s paper.

I suppose that demonstrates ignorance because the total TV number of 772,000 already includes the 9Now number of 89,000.

What would’ve been the pass rate here, considering the state of rugby here, and the Wallabies themselves? 1million?

Considering it was the only sport to be played on free to air on Saturday, one could be disappointed at the number. But rugby just isnt doing that well, and I dont think the big event of a Lions tour is enough to pull in the masses.

I think 9/Stan could have helped themselves by putting one of the tour games on free to air. The Brumbies game would have been good if it didnt clash with Origin.

It’ll be interesting to see what this weeks make or break game rates
