Congrats!

I was at the Australia-SA game with 58,000 fans in Perth 10 days ago which was the largest event at Optus Stadium
this year.

Wet weather with rain at times.

BLEDISLOE CUP: WALLABIES V ALL BLACKS

LIVE AND FREE ON CHANNEL 9

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 21, FROM 3.15PM AEST

STREAM LIVE, AD FREE AND ON DEMAND IN 4K UHD ON STAN SPORT

The Wallabies will fight for a breakthrough in an effort to end a 22 year hoodoo, when they meet the All Blacks in the 2024 Bledisloe Cup, this Saturday at 3.15pm, live and free on Channel 9HD.

In the first of two games, James Slipper will become the most capped Wallaby of all-time in his 140th Test match, surpassing George Gregan, in a team welcoming back injured stars Fraser McReight, Hunter Paisami, Noah Lolesio and Tom Wright, while 34-year-old veteran halfback Nic White also earns a return to the green and gold.

The Wallabies and All Blacks kick off the 2024 Bledisloe Cup this Saturday afternoon

The All Blacks are boosted by the experience of the returning Beauden Barrett at fullback, when he lines up alongside his brothers Jordie and team captain Scott.

In the coaches box the highly anticipated showdown between two New Zealand natives will take place when the Wallabies’ Joe Schmidt meets breakdancing All Blacks coach Scott Robertson. So far they have a similar international win record and desperately want to win the trans-Tasman battle to validate their appointments.

Coverage on Channel 9HD and Stan Sport will feature Wallabies greats Michael Hooper, Tim Horan and Justin Harrison, and All Blacks legends Andrew Mehrtens and Sonny Bill Williams.

Sean Maloney will call the match, while Michael Atkinson and Nick McArdle host the coverage alongside former internationals Morgan Turinui and Allana Ferguson.

The game is available to stream ad-free, live and on demand in 4K UHD on Stan Sport.

The game finished at 5.56pm - instead of the scheduled 5.40pm - with potentially a good lead in to Nine’s News in Sydney and Brisbane.

Sean’s the best they’ve had on Wallabies matches since Gordon Bray’s heyday on 7.

Now talk about dullness, you should hear the South African commentary, Hugh Bladen (since retired) and Gavin Cowley couldn’t generate any excitement the way Maloney does on Stan. Even the NZ crew (either Grant Nisbett or Tony Johnson) shows passion too. Bray and David Fordham in the early S12 days were great, so was Steve Davie who did the NZ games early on as well as 2 games for Fox in 2000.

I think that tends to be the South African style - deeper most of the time on play by play than Aus/NZ.

Some of the world feed Six Nations commentators go the other way and ham it up to an Alan Partridge-esque level.

Rugby Union in 2025

Upfront announcement

In 2025 the best players in world rugby will descend on Australia in a huge season of Super Rugby Pacific and Test Matches on Stan Sport and the 9Network.

The Wide World of Sports will broadcast a weekly game of Super Rugby for free across the 9Network when the Brumbies, Waratahs, Reds and Force take on the best teams from New Zealand, Fiji and the greater Pacific. Stan Sport will be the only place to watch every match live and on demand.

Then it’s the new-look Wallabies turn to show what they’ve got in the epic British & Irish Lions Tour and Bledisloe Cup from June.

Only happening once every 12 years, the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia will begin with games against our provincial Super Rugby teams before the Wallabies aim to win the three-Test series for only the second time in over 150 years.

A commentary team of rugby union superstars and experts led by Michael Atkinson and Nick McArdle will include Sonny Bill Williams, Michael Hooper, Tim Horan, Justin Harrison, Allana Ferguson and Morgan Turinui, plus caller Sean Maloney.

Stan Sport and the 9Network will be the only place to watch the game they play in heaven once again in 2025.

When was the last time we referred to the states as provinces?

It avoids calling the ACT a state.

So use a word that’s been used at some point in history, like local?
