Nine/Stan Rugby Union Coverage

Rugby Australia announced the Wallabies fixture for the 2022 Rugby Championship this morning, confirming that the Bledisloe Cup match would be held at Marvel Stadium on Thursday night, September 15. It will mark the return of the All Blacks to Melbourne for the first time since 2010.

RA added that the MCG would then host a Bledisloe Cup game next year.

The 2nd Bledisloe Cup will clash with the 2022 AFL grand final

While crowds in Melbourne is an issue, I think the primary concern is Channel 9. They will want both the Bledisloe and NRL finals on the main channel. Friday and Saturday night being already locked in for League, Thursday was the only option

It won’t be the first time the AFL grand final is up against a rugby union match - it happened in 2011 when the GF clashed with the Rugby World Cup group game between Australia and Russia in New Zealand.
It also occurred on September 25 last year when the AFL grand final at night thrashed the Rugby Championship game between Australia and South Africa.

It being in NZ is not as big an issue, nor is being against a minor rugby nation.

WALLABIES V ENGLAND SERIES TO BE SHOWN IN 4K IN STREAMING FIRST FOR SPORT IN AUSTRALIA

The highly anticipated Wallabies v England series in July will create Australian sports broadcasting history with all three matches available to stream live in stunning 4K UHD for the first time ever.

  • Blockbuster July on Stan Sport with twelve Test matches across three consecutive weekends, featuring eight of the top ten teams in the world

  • Every match streaming ad-free, live and on demand on Stan Sport

  • Wallabies v England series available to stream ad-free and in 4K on Stan Sport, with live coverage also on the 9Network

  • Innovative new bonus streams for Wallabies v England on Stan Sport, including Spider Cam & Player Cam

  • Three consecutive weekends of triple headers with All Blacks v Ireland followed by Wallabies v England and South Africa v Wales

Stan Sport today announced that the upcoming Wallabies v England Test series will be the first ever domestic sport available to live stream in 4K UHD . The three match series between the Wallabies and archrivals England kicks off on Saturday 2 July in Perth and spearheads a huge month of international rugby, which includes series between All Blacks v Ireland , South Africa v Wales and Argentina v Scotland . Stan Sport is the only place to watch the July Test Series, with every match streaming ad-free, live and on demand.

Coverage from the Wallabies v England series will be presented by the top Stan Sport commentary lineup, hosted by Nick McArdle with Wallabies greats Tim Horan , Drew Mitchell , Morgan Turinui and Justin Harrison , All Blacks legends Sonny Bill Williams and Andrew Mehrtens will break down all the action, assisted by dual international Allana Ferguson .

For the first time ever, viewers watching the Wallabies v England series on Stan Sport can tune into two additional streams - Spider Cam and Player Cam . Before the start of each half, fans can vote on which player they would like to follow in Player Cam on the @stansportrugby social media channels.

Stan Sport recently launched a campaign fronted by Wallabies prop and all-around larrikin Taniela Tupou to support the England series. The tongue-in-cheek ad juxtaposes the brute force of the Wallabies against English sensibility with a mud-covered Tupou crashing an England supporters’ high tea party. The campaign reflects Stan Sport’s fun and light-hearted take on sport and entertainment, aiming to cut through the noise using humour and cheekiness, poking fun at sunburnt English fans.

Stan Director of Sport Ben Kimber said:
“In a massive month of Rugby, we’re extremely pleased to be offering crystal clear 4K broadcasts for these Wallabies matches. Stan Sport continues to deliver for fans with more rugby in the one place than ever before. Fresh from enjoying stunning UHD pictures for the UEFA Champions League and Roland Garros, Stan Sport customers will once again be tuning in to the best sport streaming platform experience in the country.”

Rugby Australia Chief Executive Officer Andy Marinos said:
“Rugby Australia is always looking for ways that we can innovate – and our partnership with Stan Sport and the Nine Entertainment Company is an example of that. We were the first sport in this country to combine free-to-air television and streaming as part of the same broadcast package. Stan Sport’s delivery of 4K UHD streaming coverage of the upcoming Wallabies tests is an example of the innovation that this partnership is yielding.”

Kicks off Saturday 2 July with Wallabies v England live in 4K, New Zealand v Ireland, South Africa v Wales and Argentina v Scotland.

Funny how they say a first for Australia. The Foxtel IQ5 (IQ4 also no longer requires Sat input) has been streaming AFL, NRL and cricket in 4K ever since it came online. Yes you still require an expensive pay TV package but it’s still streaming.

Well it will be the first time a rugby union match of any kind is shown in 4K in Australia.
