The TCR Australia Touring Car Series is an event on Stan Sport, being rebroadcast through Nine. Hence, the ‘9GEM LIVE’ bug is displayed. (9Go! does something similar with Formula E and Indy Car highlights when the live races are streamed on Stan).
I understand that, but it’s sport, so why can’t they use a sports branded watermark.
Ten and seven can do it, so why can’t nine.
If it’s via Stan, they could do some cross promotion and have both logos.
When the tennis is on Nine and Stan, they still use the Sports branded logo.
Nine probably want Wide World of Sports and Stan Sport to remain separate brands, co-branding only for major events like Rugby World Cups and Olympics.
They also use the WWOS logo for super rugby games that play out on Gem.
So it’s very inconsistent and confusing.
Nine could have used the co branded watermark for the TCR series, as shown on its rugby union coverage earlier this year.
I wonder if it’s paid airtime…
The Australian Open tennis sets itself apart by showcasing distinct coverage on free-to-air (FTA) and streaming platforms, despite both Nine and Stan Sport broadcasting the event. Stan Sport’s coverage and Stan itself are notably highlighted through tie-ins, sponsorships, or cross-promotions featuring Stan Originals or other series within their catalog during the FTA broadcast.
In contrast, networks like 10 and Seven may connect or disconnect from their streaming services for different sports broadcasts due to their inability to secure exclusive streaming rights for certain events. Nevertheless, they capitalize on commercial breaks or partnerships to promote their brands.
This is not quite correct, 10 don’t use a sports watermark for sports content. The watermark just moves to the top RHS with live underneath for anything on the main channel.
I’ve often commented before that their sports that air on multis should use a generic 10 (or better yet, 10 Sport) logo rather than the channel name which doesn’t make sense.
Football on Bold gets a 10 Bold live watermark and same for NBL on 10 Peach.
Nine’s coverage of the Australian PGA Golf commences on Thursday 23 November on 9Gem, moving to the main channel on Saturday.
12:00 pm - 05:00pm AEDT Australian PGA Golf
Wide World of Sports presents The Fortinet Australian PGA Championship live from the Royal Queensland Golf Club, Brisbane. A stellar field of Australian and International players will compete for the Joe Kirkwood Cup and $2M in prizemoney, the richest prize on the ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia. Live play from 12:00 AEDT.
I think we’ve discussed this quite a few times now. It’s because Nine only use the WWOS watermark for their own produced/input coverage. These other events are just a program delivered to Nine with no input from them (i.e. are not "another presentation from Nine’s Wide World of Sports), so they don’t want to brand it under their WWOS branding. They are the only network that have a specific watermark for a brand, so they are different to the other networks who just use a variant of their normal watermark/logo for sports broadcasts.
Nine’s coverage of the Australian Open Golf commences on Thursday 30 November on 9Gem, moving to the main channel on Saturday .

hot to cook up big wins in consecutive weeks. But he faces a star-studded field including leading Australians Cameron Smith, Adam Scott, Marc Leishman, Cam Davis and Lucas Herbert; European Ryder Cup star Robert MacIntyre; and the defending ISPS HANDA Australian Open champion, Adrian Meronk of Poland.
After missing the cut in the PGA tournament, Cameron Smith is itching to rediscover the touch that made him the British Open champion in 2022.
Smith said: “Growing up watching all the greats win the Australian Open makes it a little bit more special to me. It would mean everything to win this tournament. I’ve been close a couple of times, so I want to win this one even more.”
The 2013 Masters champion, Adam Scott, said: “This tournament means so much to Australian golfers and it’s great to be back playing on home soil. The Australian and The Lakes set up nicely for my game and I’d really love to win my second Australian Open this week.”
In the women’s field, Australia’s last two major winners, Minjee Lee and Hannah Green, are up against defending champion Ash Buhai from South Africa and former world No.1 Jiyai Shin (Korea), as well as Aussie young guns Grace Kim, Steph Kyriacou and Gabi Ruffels.
Green, who is in prime position to represent Australia at the Paris Olympics, said: “This is the first time I’m playing a professional tournament in Sydney, so I’m excited.”

The swimming heats of the World Aquatics Championships will be shown on 9Gem each day at around 5pm AEDT from February 11 to 18, except on Friday February 16 when the heats will air on 9GO!, due to 9Gem’s coverage of NRL Women’s All-Stars match from Townsville.
A bit strange they don’t just show that women’s match on GO! if every other day the swimming is on Gem.
