Big mistake for Netball. Will kill the sport again.

So in effect, the wages of every Super Netball player will be partly funded by some of the $10 million Federal Government grant to Foxtel to cover women’s sport.

And yet, in another thread you were lauding Stan’s rugby deal which features 1 game a week FTA and the rest online.

We get it - you don’t like Foxtel and it’s associated companies but you are hard to take seriously in these threads when you have a stock response.

From the SMH article linked above:

“The comments made by a Nine spokesperson regarding this matter are poorly informed and simply wrong,” a Foxtel spokesman said.

“The finances received by Foxtel in relation to the under-represented sports grant, which currently expires mid-2022, have not been used to acquire the rights to the announced by Netball Australia commencing in 2022.”

One rugby game a week on FTA TV is better than no netball games on FTA TV. Most see Nines rugby deal is a step forward for the growth of rugby viewing, where as this is a step back, just like the cricket deal was.

Great for their back pocket, but bad for us as a viewer

I don’t necessarily disagree but I stand by my point that netball fans were forced to be streamers well before other codes in Australia because not every game was broadcast.

Having tests only on KayoFreebies will be an adjustment but they are free to access still, just without a (dying) platform.

Not sure if that was a good idea. Not every sporting organisation will want to see a broadcaster taking an equity stake.

Another exciting announcement for Nine over the summer was the news that famed announcer Ray ‘Rabs’ Warren would be returning for another season following rumours of retirement.

Exciting for who? Everyone I know wants him gone as he is clearly well past his prime. Then again, you could say that for most of Nine’s commentators.

Will these be the last internationals on FTA?

No, there will be Trans Tasman netball in Australia in October

This isn’t a dig at women’s football, but Nine in general, why do they put so much effort into the AFL brand, when they don’t have the rights and clearly the AFL has such a strong relationship with Seven/Fox. This is evident in the goodwill extension on the rights?

Surly nine would be better spending money on their sports or something else?

I’m pretty sure 9 don’t even pay for Women’s Footy, its produced by Crocmedia and aired on 9.
