WWOS set I guess ![]()
Or some other set in Sydney.
Why on earth would GTV ever want to use TCN’s studio space to produce a preview show for the Melbourne Cup Carnival?
I guess one could argue wwos (Nine’s sports broadcasting) has always been based or centred in Sydney, especially with heritage station TCN, NRL and Packers.
TA and VRC broadcast rights are major network acquisitions and ‘national’ sports, not purely GTV or Melbourne.
I’m not sure if anyone was watching yesterday but was the NHL broadcast feed still shoddy or has it improved since last week?
Much better than last week. Pictures went off without a hitch.
Audio stuttered and/or went out for brief moments every now and then though.
At least no premature fades to ads this time.
Oddly still hardly any references to 9Go, 9Now or Nine. It’s all “NHL Saturday Morning”.
As if this is simulcast on Seven or something.
Summer 2005-06 Seven aired the Winter Olympics, Australian Open and Melbourne Cup Carnival and Nine the cricket but 20 years later Nine would air the Australian Open, Winter Olympics and Melbourne Cup Carnival
Don’t watch sport on Nine…?
Nine’s Premier League replay on 9Go! this afternoon came back after the last break without a Nine watermark for about 8 minutes until the end of the coverage.
Francesca Cumani is already in Melbourne and attended today’s launch of the 2025 Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington Racecourse.

Promote four days to then end up on one day isn’t the right execution.
You might as well just list out coverage start times of the other three days, then the endtag can be “Melbourne Cup, live on 9 and 9Now”.
NINE’S MAJESTIC 2025 BIRDCAGE MARQUEE
UNVEILED AT FLEMINGTON
Nine is set to shine at the 2025 Melbourne Cup Carnival with the unveiling of their majestic marquee at Flemington Racecourse’s renowned birdcage today, ahead of four huge days of live and free coverage.
Nine’s post-race interviewer Billy Slater was front and centre on horseback for the reveal, ahead of his second year in the saddle aboard his trusted horse Sam. Alongside him, the 9Network host team of Eddie McGuire, James Bracey, and Francesca Cumani provided guests with the first look inside, detailing the design of the marquee which stands as a living expression of Nine; a space where Nine’s stories and spirit take physical form.

Bringing the comforts of home to life that feel distinctly Nine, Nicole Slater’s two striking pieces titled Alyssa and Light, from her Stables Collection, depict a celebration of the beauty and spirit of horses, while both levels display several sculptural elements that are a subtle nod to the brand’s iconic logo.
Led by Ed&EdStudio, the design celebrates collaboration and creativity. Partnering with international florist Chloe Szukilojc of CSStudio, the team crafted a series of elegant floral vignettes that embody both sophistication and a sense of lived-in luxury, a reflection of Nine’s unique balance between authenticity and aspiration.
Nine’s marquee boasts a premium viewing lounge, where guests can take in the spectacular views of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Nine will host guests across the carnival from its vast programming slate that includes The Block, The Golden Bachelor, The Olympics, NRL/NRLW and State of Origin, Today, The Floor, 9News, Australian Open Tennis and Footy Classified (AFL) amongst many others within the 9Network.

Nine has put a lot of effort in the Birdcage marquee, even though it is only the secondary broadcaster of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
What do you mean Nine is the secondary broadcaster? Quite sure Nine is the primary broadcaster.
Tabcorp/Sky bought the principal broadcast rights from the Victoria Racing Club in 2023 as part of a six year deal. Tabcorp then on-sold the FTA rights to Nine.
Racing will be blocked from airing the Melbourne Cup Carnival on Foxtel for the 2nd year in a row
