Could tell you all about it (pinged a hamstring at 20km, had to walk the last 22) but I wouldn’t imagine the highlights package would be much different from previous years in terms of content.

INTERNATIONAL NETBALL

From Saturday 26 August

International netball will debut on the Nine Network when the best players in the world are showcased in the NETBALL QUAD SERIES and CONSTELLATION CUP from Saturday, August 26 – LIVE and FREE.

As part of the partnership between Netball Australia, Telstra and Nine, fans will be front and centre for unprecedented access to these international fixtures when Australia, New Zealand, England and South Africa face off.

Covering all the NETBALL QUAD SERIES and CONSTELLATION CUP action for Nine’s Wide World of Sports, the expert commentary team will include Australian netball legends Liz Ellis, Laura Geitz, Cath Cox and Sue Gaudion, and host Clint Stanaway.

On the court the brightest stars will include Caitlin Bassett, Madi Robinson and Kim Ravillion representing Australia, Maria Tutaia leading the charge for New Zealand, along with England’s Super Netball stars Jo Harten and Geva Mentor, and South Africa’s Karla Mostert.

Nine’s Head of Netball, Keeley Devery, said: “International netball is coming to Nine and what better way to do it than the Quad series and Constellation Cup, where viewers will be treated to the best players in the world. The stars of the recent Suncorp Super Netball series will now step it up in their national teams and we can’t wait to showcase these amazing athletes on Nine.”

Former Australian captain and Nine netball commentator, Liz Ellis, said: “Four of the best teams in the world will square off in a host of international grudge matches. The Aussies love nothing more than beating New Zealand and they will have the chance to do it both home and away.

“The Quad Series and Constellation Cup will feature a real mate-versus-mate vibe when the stars of Super Netball get the chance to settle old scores. Plenty of pride is on the line and some tough netball is going to be played. I’m excited to see it all coming to life on Nine.”

It will be interesting to see if Nine uses Sky Sport commentary and graphics for netball matches in New Zealand.

SOCCEROOS’ CRUCIAL WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS ON 9GO!

From Thursday 31 August

It’s a make or break week for the Socceroos with the final two FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Japan and Thailand to decide whether they can claim automatic entry into Russia 2018.

Ange Postecoglou’s men currently sit third, and only good results in their last two games will guarantee a spot at the World Cup.

On Thursday, August 31, LIVE on 9GO! from 8.00pm AEST, Wide World of Sports will broadcast all the action from Japan as the Aussies take on the group leaders – needing at least a draw to help them gain a top two position and direct qualification for the World Cup. Their final group match, against Thailand on Tuesday, September 5, LIVE from Melbourne, will also be on 9GO! from 7.30pm AEST.

Former Socceroo Craig Moore joins the Wide World of Sports commentary team for these two crucial matches, alongside regular WWOS football expert Michael Bridges and host Clint Stanaway.

Nine’s Director of Sport, Tom Malone, said: “It doesn’t get more important than these two matches, and we need all Australians to get behind the Socceroos and show their support. The best way to do that is by watching on Nine, or turning up at the ground.”

NINE RETURNS AS FREE-TO-AIR HOST BROADCASTER FOR 2017 RALLY AUSTRALIA

THE finale of the most exciting FIA World Rally Championship in years will be shown nationally on Nine following an agreement between the Nine Network and organisers of Kennards Hire Rally Australia.

Round 13 of the WRC will be staged on the New South Wales Coffs Coast on November 16-19, with Nine’s Wide World of Sports hosting a 90-minute program live from the final forest stage, plus daily highlights and preview and review programs.

With faster new cars, multiple winners and a tightening contest at the top of the standings, this season’s WRC has become one of the hottest in championship history.

“Channel Nine’s audiences will enjoy the most spectacular television footage in world motorsport, with incomparable action, drama and scenery broadcast from the forest, rural and city stages of the Coffs Coast,” event chairman Ben Rainsford said.

“Rally Australia is delighted to welcome back Channel Nine as our free-to-air television partner in 2017, following a successful experience in 2016.

“This will be the 25th anniversary of the WRC in Australia. Channel Nine has been our partner for the majority of those events, since the early days in Western Australia, and helped to bring the world championship to the attention of many, many fans.

“Once again, Nine will be the free-to-air viewing destination as the 2017 FIA World Rally Championship comes to its exciting conclusion.”

A final broadcast schedule will be announced closer to the start of the Kennards Rally Australia.

Tonight’s coverage of the WCQ soccer match against Japan vs Australia is coming from the ACA set with Clint Stanaway (host), Craig Moore and Michael Bridges

Does Nine’s sub-contract with Fox Sports on Asian World Cup qualifiers cover the playoffs? 9GO! showed last night’s Australia-Thailand match in Melbourne. The Socceroos won 2-1 but missed out on automatic qualification after Saudi Arabia edged out Japan 1-0 at home to finish second in its group. So for the first time since 2005, the Socceroos have been forced into playoffs. They will play Syria in a two-leg playoff on October 5 and 10. The winner will then play the fourth placed team from CONCACAF (currently Honduras) on November 6 and 14.

UPDATE: Syria will host the first leg of the playoff in a neutral country on October 5, with Australia hosting the second leg at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium on Tuesday, October 10.

On Nine News Sydney it was stated that Nine would be showing those games.

Game 1 of the Socceroos playoff games is on Nine in Vic/Tas on Oct 5 at 11pm. Not sure about other states.

I had a look on the Your TV website guide and found out that the schedule follows out like this:
NSW/ACT: 11 PM on Nine
VIC: 11 PM on Nine
TAS: 11 PM on Nine
SA: 10:30PM on Nine
QLD: 10PM on Nine
NT: 10 PM on Nine (miss the first 30 minutes of telecast)
WA: 8PM on 9Go!

I thought they would just put it on 9Go… that’s what they normally do …

I noticed a rare bit of programming on Nine Melbourne this morning

Both Footy Shows being on at the same time, the AFL version on the main channel, the NRL version on 9Gem, followed by the NRL Grand Final Day coverage.

This is something I think Nine should do year round, in all markets, during the week and on weekends.

SOCCEROOS’ ROAD TO RUSSIA RESUMES ON NINE :soccer:

The Socceroos’ World Cup future is on the line when they take on Syria in Malaysia tonight on Nine’s Wide World of Sports.

The winner of the home and away series will progress to the final stage of qualifying for Russia 2018, while the loser will be eliminated.

Syria has never made the World Cup and its campaign is a rare good-news story in a country ravaged by civil war.

But Socceroos’ coach Ange Postecoglou and his men are desperate to keep alive a streak which has seen them contesting the past three World Cup finals.

Wide World of Sports will deliver the two-leg series Live and Free with the first match from 11.00pm AEDT tonight on Nine, before returning to home soil in Sydney on Tuesday, October 10, with coverage from 7.30pm on 9GO!

Former Socceroo Craig Moore joins the Wide World of Sports commentary team for these two vital matches, alongside regular WWOS football expert Michael Bridges and host Clint Stanaway.

Nine’s Director of Sport, Tom Malone, said: “The Socceroos were agonisingly close to automatic qualification and now the pressure is really on. Australia has a proud history of performing when the chips are down and the two games with Syria will make for a great opportunity to do so again.

“The reaction to the previous World Cup qualifiers broadcast Live and Free on Wide World of Sports made it a no-brainer to continue on with this gripping journey, and we will bring every second of the action to the largest audience when Australia gets behind the Socceroos again.”

Australia vs Syria

It’s do or die for the Socceroos’ World Cup dreams when they take on Syria tomorrow night on Nine’s Wide World of Sports.

After a 1-1 draw last Thursday the Socceroos must win or not concede more than one goal in a draw against Syria at ANZ Stadium in Sydney to stay alive in the qualifying for Russia 2018.

The pressure to deliver is huge on Socceroos’ coach Ange Postecoglou and his squad, featuring stars Tim Cahill, Aaron Mooy and Tom Rogic, who are desperate to keep intact the Socceroos’ record as World Cup finalists since 2006.

Syria are the unlikely success story of this campaign, overcoming all the odds and seeking to make an appearance at their first ever World Cup, despite representing a nation ravaged by civil war and unable to play at home.

Australia JUST survived tonight’s World Cup playoff against Syria in Sydney, thanks to a header by Tim Cahill in the second half of extra time. The Socceroos won 2-1 with Cahill scoring both goals and will next face the fourth place side from CONCACAF in the next playoff in early November. Nine will again show both legs live.

It’s been mooted that the first leg in North or Central America (likely to be either Panama or Honduras) will be on Melbourne Cup Morning at 11AM EDST (10AM Qld) with the 2nd leg probably in Sydney (knowing how the FFA work) a week later. However all will be confirmed after the last CONCACAF fixtures are played tomorrow morning.
