Using that logic you could also say that WIN will having black screens from July 1 since no announcement has been made. A lack of announcement doesn’t mean that an announcement won’t be made. While it’s definitely all speculation still, WIN are required to make certain decisions also before a WIN/TDT switch can happen, so obviously it couldn’t have been included in the original announcement.
You can’t understand why WIN would be doing so poorly in Tassie?
WIN axed their weekend news in one of ‘Bruce’s brainwaves’ a few years ago and despite reinstating it, have paid the price since.
They shafted their weekend viewers, they went to sample SC and have never returned.
Coupled with a revolving door of presenters, there hasn’t been the consistency since Tom Payne left to build a loyal following.
Compare this with SC, how long has Jo been there? The only thing that changes there is her surname.
That might explain the news figures, but does it explain the overall ratings? How many people watch are swayed in their, say, reality TV choices based on the news service?
In a more parochial like Tasmania or even Perth - the station with the leading news service often is the leading station overall. That’s why 7 has always been so strong in Perth and Adelaide. And SC in Tasmania. All are “heritage” stations - same with NBN in Newcastle.
It’s also worth remembering that Nine’s ratings are also well down this year so that won’t have helped either.
[quote]IMPORTANT INFO:
When does the affiliation agreement with Nine begin? 1 July 2016 for a five year period.
When will you start trading Nine business? We are open for business, trading in the Nine regions now for business commencing after 1 July 2016.
FAQ
What does the new agreement mean?
It means that in the relevant licence areas, SCA will broadcast the Nine channels rather than broadcasting the Ten channels.
Which TV markets are covered by the new agreement?
Regional Queensland, Southern NSW, regional Victoria.
What is happening in relation to Northern NSW where Nine/Win broadcasts the Nine channels?
We have had a number of discussions with Ten about the affiliate agreements. These discussion with continue but only in relation to the Northern NSW.
We are confident agreement will be reached before the current agreement expires 30 June 2016.
What is happening in relation to the other areas in which Win currently broadcasts the Nine channels – WA, Tasmania and SA?
That is a matter for Nine and Win – we understand there are continuing discussions with Win.
Is the first step towards a merger between Nine and SCA?
No. Our negotiations have been limited to affiliation issues.
Will there be changes to branding?
Yes, from 1 July 2016 the SCA channels will start carry Nine branding and this will be rolled out progressively.
Will viewers at home notice the change-over?
We do not expect that viewers will need to retune their sets or change to a different channel to see their Nine programming.
With a change in branding viewers will notice some change to “look and feel” of the channels.
Will viewers continue to get all the Nine channels?
SCA will broadcast Nine, Go and Gem into the licence areas from 1 July 2016, meaning all programing including the NRL and the Voice will be available.
9HD and 9Life will be switched on as soon as we have built the capability to broadcast them. We expect this to happen within a couple of months.
Will SCA broadcast local programming?
In recent years, SCA has been broadcasting news updates but not bulletins to its markets.
Using the strong experience and content of Nine, we will be considerably boosting the local content we broadcast. This will take the form of one hour composite bulletins of international, national and local news.
The ability to provide this news will be built and rolled out over coming months. We will announce our new services when we are in a position to do so.
In the meantime, SCA will comply with its local content quota requirements.
We assume from media reports that WIN will continue to provide their local news bulletins into the future.

Hopefully SCA are including NNSW into that HD build so we can get TenHD into our regions.
Parents arent’t going to be happy about losing 9Life for 2 months.
Hope they are working on 9HD and 9Life as we speak.
Or the NRL fans in QLD & NSW.
I know a lot of people who are really glad they can finally watch the NRL is HD this year.
There are going to be some seriously pissed off people when they can’t watch State of Origin 3 in HD after having done so for State of Origin 2 and 1.
At least they’ve confirmed they’re working on it. More than they’ve ever said in the past.
It is a bit of a pain, and disruptive to viewers though.
This is fantastic! It sounds like SCA are planning to build their own Nine News bulletins for the regions.
Would be excellent to see services like “Nine News North QLD”, “Nine News Canberra”, etc. started.
I wonder how they’re planning to do this?
As far as I know, they only have a studio in Canberra.
Surely they’d need to purchase another studio facility interstate to facilitate starting one hour news bulletins?
Found this on the SCAengage website.
NOTE: Darwin is listed as having SCA run Nine’s stations from July 1?
SCA’s previous map showing current affiliation only shows 7 & 10 being SCA run in Darwin.
They probably have enough facilities as it is.
The Canberra studios are a massive complex that are most likely largely not being used at the moment. It sounds like they might be planning on re-building studios for the news - if this is the case, using modern technology they would require less space per studio than they would have previously, so may be able to fit in more studios.
They also have a large facility in Bendigo that’s the old SCTen studios that they could use if they wanted a Victorian hub. Similarly they have 2 facilities in Townsville - one being the old DMG radio studios when the SCA and Grant stations a currently based, The other I believe is the old SCTen studios in - not 100% sure what’s done there these days, but Google tells me it has SCA signage, although it does look like some of this space has been leased out to other businesses over the past few years.
Note that that map refers to sales representation, not actual operation of the stations. SCA are running national sales for Nine Darwin under the new agreement.
I’d say that’s an error given that NTD Nine Darwin (the station that isn’t SCA) is owned and operated by Nine Entertainment Co.
EDIT: or, as Webguy pointed out but I didn’t see it prior to posting, it’s a sales representation map not an operational one.
I reckon they may “drop out” of statewide Nine News at say 6.30 and run a 10 minute local bulletin before rejoining at 6.40 for sports in the first few months.
Probably wrong though!
That’s good to know, Thanks! I didn’t realise that they actually had that many facilities already.
I know of the SCA/Grant radio studios in Townsville as I drive past them all the time (I don’t think that facility would be large enough to fit in a TV studio alongside the radio stations currently there), but I’m not sure where the old SCTen studios here were to confirm whether they are still SCA owned or not.
It would be good to see them running VIC bulletins out of Bendigo, NSW/ACT bulletins out of Canberra and QLD bulletins out of Townsville.
But it’s probably more likely they’d just use their already existing facilities at Canberra.
I’m really looking forward to seeing this new local news bulletin, it’ll be really interesting to see Local stories mixed in with national/international stories from Nine, and it will be much more relevant than showing Nine News Brisbane here like we currently receive.
