Exactly! The changeover is tomorrow night for goodness sake.
Surely they’ve got copies of Nine’s proper promos on hand.
They should be promoting the Friday Night NRL game, Sunday’s nights The Voice and 60 Minutes, The Briefcase, Love Child, etc.
But honestly, at the rate they’re going, I don’t think we’ll see any proper Nine promos until after 12:01am Friday morning.
WTF would they bother making an in house promo??? Totally pointless. Like, actually pointless. I can’t even begin to describe how pointless making in house promos is right now.
I’m puzzled as to why southern cross ten Wollongong soon to be called channel nine Wollongong has not promoted all of the upcoming 9 programs. WIN is promoting ten shows now, nearly all of them, why isn’t southern cross promoting all of 9 programs when the deadline is approaching quickly?
This affiliation switch has shown that SCA clearly has no idea how to run a TV business.
Whilst the Nine on 5 website, promos and tag line is clever - obviously that was all done by Nine’s marketing team.
When you look at WIN, they have had stories on their local news bulletins. Thrown Press/PR events for publicity. Promos for the channel change for One and 11. Promos for WIN news at 6. Promos for win news at 5.30. Promos for ten news at 5. Lineup promos for 5pm-730pm (ten news, win news, the project) on screen bugs and pop ups for various shows including win news at 6. Clearly they have planned this out strategy wise.
Then you have SCA. 2 days out and still running promos for Offspring and The living Room (now their rivals shows) playing the same Voice promos over and over when there are only 2 episodes left. And no promos for flagship shows like 60 Minutes, ACA, 9 News, LoveChild etc. no bugs no pop ups no promos for new channel numbers for Go and Gem. No promos saying 9HD is launching. Nothing! They just don’t get it…
Not to mention SCA stations rate a lot lower than WIN so their promos need to work twice as often to be seen by the same amount of people that see WINs promos. Yet they are playing none!
I really think that WIN keeping WIN News, their smarter promo strategy going into this and Ten’s strong performance the last few months will help mitigate some of the expected ratings drop off for WIN
On the other hand with bad marketing about the change over, no local news and reduced strength of Nine the last few months - SCA owned Nine stations may not perform as strong as initially expected
For almost 20 years SCA stations have run The Simpsons, The Nanny, Level 21, Family Fued and dozens of other non news shows at 6.
Now come Monday they will have live news at 6 for the first time in decades (not including The 3 month run of George Negus)
Yet - SCA has not promoted this massive change at all. And when you consider that 6pm often sets up the night, and their main rival WIN has moved their news to 6pm - it’s astounding that SCA have not promoted 9 News at 6 at all. Just baffling.
They should be running promos along the lines of:
WHEN NEWS BREAKS - ONLY 9 NEWS QUEENSLAND WILL HAVE IT LIVE AT 6
EVERY SINGLE DAY AT 6 - ONLY 9 NEWS DELIVERS THE BEST LIVE BREAKING NEWS FROM AUSTRALIA AND ACROSS THE GLOBE
WHEN THE OTHER GUYS ARE AIRING PRE-TAPED HOURS OLD NEWS AT 6 (see a WIN and Prime7 logo on screen)
ONLY 9 NEWS QUEENSLAND IS LIVE
QUEENSLANDS NUMBER ONE ANS ONLY LIVE NEWS AT 6 - IS 9 NEWS
NIGHTLY AT 6, ON CHANNEL NINE
(NSW and VIC versions would be done, and not run in Wollongong and Sunshine Coast where the local news airs live)
Generally, the information is gathered from press releases and news articles around the time the station launches. Plus it’s not hard to work it out for yourself, whether it’s WIN voiceovers on Ten West or Southern Cross news updates on TDT.
WIN controls Ten Mildura, Griffith, SA and West. SCA does Tasmania, Darwin and Central.
