Nine Radio (Talk)

Jones’ new deal has been officially confirmed:

Macquarie Media Limited today announced that it has re-signed Alan Jones, the host of its 2GB Sydney and 4BC Brisbane breakfast radio programs, to a new two-year contract which will commence on July 1st 2019 at the conclusion of his current contract.

In announcing the signing, MML Chairman Russell Tate said he was very pleased that Jones would continue to be an integral part of the Macquarie on-air team for at least another two years.

Mr. Tate commented that “Over his already extraordinary radio career, Alan has dominated Sydney radio with 218 ratings survey wins, including 15 consecutive years at Number 1 on 2GB – an
unprecedented achievement.

And with Alan’s current ratings share of the Sydney radio audience amongst the highest it has ever been, his dominance shows no sign of slowing down.

All of us at Macquarie are delighted that we will continue along for the ride with one of the Australian media’s most outstanding performers.”

Good. Lang should always be part of a team with decision makers above him, he was a terrible replacement for Fairfax to go from Graham Mott to him.

No loss, their TV personality on radio format was a flop.

According to News Ltd reports, Alan Jones has re-signed with 2GB on his current $4 mil a year salary in a deal that keeps him there until he turns 80.

Gotta hand it to him for longevity, surprised he hasn’t died earlier (and you know AJ’s taken a few risks in life if you get my drift)

I sure as hell won’t still be working when I’m nigh on 80 (if I make it that far).

So Labor’s progessive policies were ‘Loony left’? So if so that makes Jones ultra right IMO!

Jones stays at 2GB? Kyle stays at KIIS?

Sydney radio stays “the same old” yet again.

Would’ve been exciting to see 2SM get him across.

How would 2SM be able to afford him? Would Bill sell out? Doubt it very much.

Did anyone else seriously think he’d leave 2GB?

He was never going to go to 2SM.

Exactly, mostly a rival newspaper beat up, they egged it on so much, it became a self fulfilling prophecy with them meeting, or so we’re led to believe.

It could’ve worked if you profit-share with BOG, then do a bigger deal with NewsCorp, greater presence on Sky News and a podcast deal with ARN.

It still wouldn’t be $4m, but if MML had not made a $4m offer, the other would’ve been better than an early retirement.

Chris Bowen’s legal action against Ray Hadley is expected to be lodged by the end of June.

Probably egged along by Alan to increase his worth.

At the start of the Continuous Call State of Origin coverage on 2GB Mark Levy stated that Ray Hadley was the “Chairman”. An appropriate title since Hadley has always thought he was in charge from the first day in walked in the door.

Mark is clearly frightened of Ray, classic victim avoidance. Levy lauds the bully in the hope he will not be in Hadley’s sights.

Of course, he would’ve been furiously emailing, writing letters and phoning News Ltd journalists to beat it up.

Tony Jones is filling in for Neil Mitchell this morning.

When Nine eventually takes full control hopefully they will standardise the logos.

Merrick Watts filling in for Ben Fordham for a week from July 8. I’m not sure he is a good fit for 2GB but he must’ve really impressed when he joined Natalie Peters for a shift on Good Friday. Good luck to him.

Let’s hope that Merrick believes that the science of climate change is a hoax and is part of a conspiracy of the world’s universities. I also hope that he thinks Israel Folau is being persecuted for being a Christian and that gays, and this includes several of the staff at 2GB, are going to hell.

It’s the Jones’ Doctrine. And there is a picture of Tony Abbott in his speedos in the front cover. I am sure Merrick is reading it this weekend.

What are you on Alan? There was no silence to break as Folau hasn’t stopped communicating.

He also filled in from 10:00pm last night.
