@Lukemovieman there is a new national show coming this Sunday, called The House of Wellness and to be hosted by Larry Emdur.
@Rossco It airs on 3AW this Sunday at 9am. It is an advertorial, sponsored by Chemist Warehouse. Here is the article from Radio Today
Also, Ross and John will broadcast their breakfast show from India on March 7. Due to time difference they will be doing it in the middle of the night.
EDIT: they are broadcasting from Kuala Lumpur instead after they were denied a visa by the Indian Government.
I enjoyed the show, Larry is good. Sounds a bit like Darren James tbh (for 3AW listeners).
Interesting health discussions, heavily promoted by Chemist Warehouse however.
I assume management will drop the show if ratings donât stack-up down the track?
No doubt all the twitter trolls & people who donât like change, will come out
âIâm flicking off AWâ etcâŚ
Has John Cadogan left UE or taking a break?
Just taking a break I believe and back next weekend. Having said that it is hard to believe anything that comes out of MRN.
His profile has disappeared from the 2ue website but that in itself means nothing when it comes to Macquarie websites! His Twitter bio does still include a reference to him being a 2ue presenter.
More generally, as we are now well into March, any news on the relaunch of 2ue which I thought was promised for this month?
But then again, Erin Maher is the 2GB/2CH/2UE/4BC Macquarie/Fairfax radio news director.
Yeah martp I noticed he had disappeared from the 2ue website. It was kinda of sudden. Anyway he might be back next week.
âŚalong with the new line up?
They have started running proper promos for Tim Webster and Bill Woods, so I wonder if theyâll be permanent.
Whatever happens, like I said before Christmas it will be all âsmoke and mirrorsâ but then again the next ratings might bring on sudden changes. With Fairfax as the major shareholder I have long believed that 2UE is somewhat sacred and donât want radical changes.
Fairfax donât really care about 2UE as long as it starts to make a profit; if they did they wouldnât have given Macquarie control of the network. 2UE will be re-formatted so as to no longer be a talk competitor to 2GB and will focus on lifestyle content which the sales team will ultimately control.
Maybe itâll be a gradual change rather than a âbig bangâ. But I donât understand why the Larry Emdur program has launched on 2gb rather than 2ue. Given what we understand about the direction for 2ue, Iâd have thought it would have been prime 2ue material
The Larry Edmur show is on 2GB because thatâs the only way they could sell it to clients. With 2UEâs ratings there is no way they could monetise the show.
That sounds very plausible. However, if it is true that 2ue is heading down the infomercial route, at some point they will need somehow to persuade sponsors/clients to take a âleap of faithâ, otherwise the whole format will be dead in the water before it has even started. Perhaps thatâs why itâs gone very quiet about the relaunch!
Hereâs another question for the think tank at Macquarie. If the Metro radio advertising spend has been increasing month by month (as todayâs figures show) why is Macquarie revenue DOWN??? Youâd be an idiot to buy shares in the company under current management.
If MRN said that today was Tuesday I would have to look at the calendar to believe them. No doubt they have waited for the first ratings period to implement any changes. The only reason they have that appalling Sunday night programme on 2UE is because it is sponsored and pays for itself. Melbourne and Brisbane listeners can think themselves lucky they donât have it. On another matter Sydney listeners still have to put up with the dreadful overnight programme that is piped up from Melbourne on weekends. The woman from Nil in Country Victoria is still heard for about 20 minutes after the 5am news every Saturday morning with her dribble and then the woman from TV Week for another 20 minutes. First caller on the Sunday morning proceeded to send a cheerio to all her friends followed by a Prayer!!! Do we really need this, I guess I could just not listen but the antics from 2GB is just as bad.
Just to reassure you!! Sharina is still on 4BC on Sunday evenings (one of the few 2UE shows still simulcast on 4BC), so Brisbane listeners donât miss out!!!
As to your point about weekend overnights, I totally agree. Even though it is the middle of the night you would think that the combined populations of Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and the areas covered by the various network stations along the east coast taking the show, ought to be able to produce a better standard of caller than the ones you usually hear!! The production values on the show are certainly low
I follow John Cadogan on Twitter and I noticed on there today that in reply to a question from someone about whether he was on holiday, he said he currently wasnât booked for any shifts at 2ue
Certainly not what Clinton Maynard said on air 3 weeks ago which is a pity as I found him quite entertaining. Hard to imagine, Clinton having a young family would want to tie up his weekends but I guess beggars canât be choosers. If MRN are true to their word changes should be starting to happen from now.
I suspect Clinton is just relieved that he still has a job given how the axe has fallen on so many management-level posts since the merger, so probably happy to âgo with the flowâ. If budgets are tight, it is doubtless cheaper to get the Program Manager to do the show than bring in a freelancer.
That said, I didnât hear the show today and therefore donât know if Clinton presented it. Last week his name and photo were included in the show details on the 2ue website. Today, in true MRN website style, no presenter for that show is named!
Ben and Darren were on UEâs afternoon show. It is kinda strange on 2ue, they say all experts are on (except John at 3pm was a no show) it is almost like he never existed. People form relationships with talkback announcers. Now its almost like a gf or bf just disappeared without reason. Haha well I might be a bit extreme here but you get my drift.
Sure he was not permanent on weekends afternoon after Tim Webster was shifted to a weekday shift. But he was semi permanent on the motoring show for 1hr on Sunday. His motoring hour seem extremely popular with a full board of calls not uncommon. Dont think it a ratings issue.
