Nine Radio (Talk)

3AW has posted an article about the update of its app.

It’s fair enough if 3AW, etc. revert back to Sports Today, but 2GB never used the Sports Today show name.

Yep. Should be called Sportszone on 2GB

I’m guessing they’ll call all those shows Sports Today for the sake of convenience?

They do own 2UE so may as well since they outsource it to be a music station. I doubt it will ever come back as a talk station unless the ownership changes.

RadioToday can also reveal that a new News theme will be heard from next week and that the old name Sports Today will return, to replace the Nine network’s Wide World of Sports name on the network’s evening sports show.

This Friday, the day of the official handover, a morning tea will take place in each station, followed by a ā€˜town hall’ meeting fronted by Tom Malone, where the new station branding will be revealed. Staff will then have a lunch to mark the occasion.

Glad to hear there will be new logos! They honestly should go with the other ones that were designed that I found a while back.

Here’s hoping the news theme is similar to the previous one prior to Nine. I still find it quite modern.

Probably. Unless Mark Levy has any pull at 2GB and he was the host of Sports Zone.

2GB still has Sports Zone podcasts on its website

They played new news theme on 3aw breakfast this morning.

How did it sound?

Couldn’t find it on the podcast

It was referred to later in the Mornings show. (1:35:57 in the full show podcast.)

We’re going to have a new news theme. You might have heard that on the Rumour File this morning. It’s not bad, so don’t be surprised if it sounds a bit different. It’s all part of a change.

The news bulletin itself was contained in the mentioned segment, but on the podcast version, there was no music.

Does that imply it will be stock production music? Not necessary.

It was on rumour file. They don’t podcast the rumour file. It’s so that people have to listen to the segment live. Clever technique

Nine Entertainment made the announcement to the ASX after the markets closed this afternoon.

NINE COMPLETES SALE OF BROADCAST RADIO ASSETS

30 April 2026: Nine Entertainment Co. (ASX: NEC, Nine) has today completed the sale of 100% of Nine’s broadcast radio assets - 2GB, 3AW, 4BC, 6PR, 2UE, Magic1278 and 4BH - to the Laundy Family Office for a cash and debt free enterprise value of $56m, as well as a future cash tax benefit of $51m, as announced on 30 January 2026.

Nine expects that Laundy will remain a long-term partner of Nine, with the Laundy Group intending to utilise Nine News journalists on radio, showcase Stan Sport through Laundy venues, provide promotion and advertising sales collaboration, as well as increase advertising spend on Nine properties.

Notwithstanding the sale of these radio assets, Nine retains a growing presence in the Digital Audio market, leveraging the Group’s video production and distribution capabilities, through podcasts, text-to-audio and vodcast (the convergence of digital audio and video). Nine’s asset base will enable distribution both on-platform (through 9Now, Stan and publishing mastheads) and off-platform, with monetisation through Nine’s existing sales teams.

The completion of the broadcast radio sale is part of Nine’s broader portfolio optimisation, including the acquisition of QMS Media, which completed last month, and the conversion of Nine’s TV interests in Northern NSW and Darwin to an affiliate structure (which is subject to Nine shareholder approval and ACCC approval).

And yet couldn’t use the theme.

If they’re using the Nine News journos does that mean it’ll still be called Nine News on air?

We should find out in the morning.

I’m actually worried. I think they should have just reinstated the Southern Cross one. I am just hoping its not generic production music that sounds like its part of a ā€œnews bulletinā€ in a movie……

It’s used everywhere indeed.

For some odd reason, if you find the 6PR version of the show, you get the Tapt Media logo instead.

There’s a new syndication information website as well.
