With Brisbane v Geelong postponed due to Cyclone Alfred, 3AW’s Wide World of Sports will have an extended show tomorrow from 6.05pm to 8pm AEDT, in which host Jimmy Bartel and Matthew Richardson will preview the 2025 AFL season.

Phil O’Neil has always been good at talkback. Even on the Triple M network at nights, prior to Spoonman, it was great radio.

Sarah Macdonald was on 2GB this morning with Mark Levy. He mentioned that she was now a regular guest with a segment each Thursday. They worked surprisingly well together.

I don’t know if Phil made a mistake but he said Mike will be back “tomorrow”. Does that mean Saturday 12am ? Can’t see anything on the website about it.

Heidi Murphy is filling in for Jacqui Felgate this afternoon.
Jacqui has had a few days off over recent weeks.

Keep 'em coming.

Yeah I’ve noticed this too… when you think of predecessors and other presenters. They would only take leave when forced and holidays.
Tom rarely did random days off even when sick.

Heidi appears to almost be the part time Drive host at this rate. It’s already hard hearing a lot of soft content in the drive show, travel, food and other segments which you pretty well hear on Afternoons as well as weekends… it’s a duplication.
It’s been a while but I just don’t feel sold on Drive now. Granted better than it was last year , just not the same as it should be.
I intently listen when Heidi is on, Jacqui’s show is always about the latest Bayside home invasion and her outrage. It is a big topic but there isn’t enough variance in what is covered. She’s also very heavily scripted which bothers me.

That’s a bit harsh. Jacqui has had two days off for other commitments since returning from mid-January. The only other day off was because she was sick (same week Tony Moclair was off sick). Heidi filling in twice is hardly part-time host.

I do think that AW is in a much worse place than it was in 2023. Tom is nothing on Neil Mitchell. A hard-hitting journalist should’ve been appointed to the Mornings slot. And Jacqui’s content as you’ve mentioned is either repetitive or soft.

Credit where it’s due. Well done to Nine Radio Brisbane with 4BC’s rolling coverage of TC Alfred over the past few days - and continuing.

A refreshing broadcast, professionally put together with production.

It was a false alarm, it feels like Phil is a real newbie whilst his show was pretty good, I would of imagined he should know the schedule and ideally listen to a couple of overnight shows as prep work. Having said that I am sure he will have success.

The program takes on a different feel when Heidi is on in my opinion, it seems a bit more relaxed, Heidi is easier to listen to.

Is it though? Sure, Tom might be ‘popular’ with listeners, but it’s essentially just a carbon copy of his Drive show. There is a reason Jacinta Allan appears on his program - he is a soft interviewer and nothing on Neil.

In my opinion the current line-up is somewhat disjointed. The Mornings program should set the news agenda for the day whereas Drive is about talkback and getting people’s opinions. Since the presenter change last year it is now the other way around which just feels wrong and out of place.

He’s nothing on Neil. Same calls. Same topics. No campaigns. No making a difference.

Sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone.

(Pave paradise and put up a parking block!)

Yep absolutely. I’m in Sydney but was listening to the 4BC app to keep up to date. I was especially impressed with Dean Miller overnights who gave heaps of information and kept talking with callers as they reported on their situations thru the wee small hours. Overnights are often the hardest part of dealing with these kinds of natural disasters. Great job 4BC and showed radio at its best and where TV can’t really keep up … Radio in these situations = Live, Local and Immediate.

I concur. I had 4BC on overnights while I was up feeding Mechie Jnr and I was very impressed with the coverage.

Jimmy Bartel will host Wide World of Sports on 3AW live from Melbourne’s John Cain Arena after the 6pm news today, ahead of game 2 of NBL Championship Series between Melbourne United and Illawarra Hawks.

Tomorrow, he will host the show with Matthew Richardson in the OB caravan on the outside concourse of the MCG between Gate 1 and Gate 2, before the Carlton v Richmond AFL clash.

Ben Fordham said this morning that a Triple M host that was recently let go will be joining 2GB and will be announced next week. I think we all know who it won’t be.

As a fill-in presenter, unless they are getting rid of one of the current hosts?

Wow. Wonder what slot they’re going to put Luke on.
