Nine Radio (Talk)

This is the problem. It should be rating between 1 and 2. How Brisbane can give Alan and Ray ‘respectable’ figures I have no idea.

All the expats from NSW no doubt

Apparently way back when they were going to launch network stations of 2GB in each state capital, like 4GB Brisbane, 3GB Melbourne etc…

Looks like it’s finally coming true. Sorry to say for Brisbanites putting up with 4BC being taken from behind.

I really don’t want this to happen by any means, but I actually wouldn’t be surprised if 4BC is airing “Australia Live with Ben Fordham” at drivetime by the end of the year!

Don’t media laws mean 4BC has to have one local shift?

I think that only applies to regionals.

OK

The CM published a “rumour” yesterday to the effect that Ben Smith may face the axe soon as he elected not to sign a contract with the station that he was offered at the end of last year. When he returned, he signed a contract for a casual position meaning 24hours notice. According to the article “he could be gone by the end of the week.”

It is all very well what they are trying to do and run 4BC on a shoestring but surely they realise that they are going to end up with a repeat of MTR and fail miserably. Brisbane listeners aren’t going to listen to Sydney radio a bit like Sydney won’t listen to the garbage that comes up overnight from Melbourne, thankfully only on weekends. You would think the logical thing to have done would be local breakfast and drive regardless of Alan Jones so called popularity as a local boy and some sort of local lifestyle on the weekends.

You’re right Rossco. 4BC is very close to being at the MTR tipping point. They have some way to go because unlike MTR, there are next to no local costs of programming, apart from the newsroom.

Listen for only one break and you’ll hear the client value is low. These are short term clients who don’t understand how radio works for them, most don’t have business at a stage that is suitable for getting the most out of radio and all of this is perpetuated by sales staff who are inexperienced in selling radio.

Look at the sales boss, she’s left regional TV sales for radio.

What’s going to be interesting are the code obligations of emergency broadcasting if Ben’s shift is axed. Who will be on call when there are problems? How quick will it take to get local information to air?

Murray and John panel the Sat/Sun morning specialty show muddle, will they and others sit in the studio and do nothing unless there’s a storm?

Michael Price leaves Bundaberg to return to Brisbane.

A Ben Davis replacement?

Its a shame when a listening to George & Paul, George said there is no way they could get a podcast of a segment on the 2ue website as it was done by someone else. I would of thought being very popular on 2ue they could request such a thing.

Enjoying listening to Alan Pearsall tonight on 3AW for once, lots calling up and discussing the tennis.

Weekend Melbourne overnights veteran.

3AW’s Neil Mitchell will be on ABC’s Q&A next Monday night when the forum is broadcast from Melbourne. Should be interesting.

How terrible Ross Newth has been replaced as imaging voice on 6PR.

Now sounds second rate.

3AW Nightline co-host Bruce Mansfield has revealed on air that he is taking further time off for prostate cancer treatment. Good luck to him.

I am loving the coverage that 2GB, 2UE and 702 are giving to the US elections in Sydney. I was expecting the ABC to cover this news story but both commercial talk stations have also provided good information - especially John and Garry. For once we are not just hearing the outcome of the election but also the process of choosing a president.

It’s an exciting time. The United States has had white men and black men as presidents. This time there is a real chance that a white woman or an orange man will make history and become president.

or a democratic socialist Jew.

After 16 years with The Australian Traffic Network, 3AW’s weekday morning traffic reporter Andrea McNamara has left.

Former ARN Melbourne newsreader Nathan Gardiner has taken over (only started last year, wonder if he knows Breakfast with Ross & John is the #1 radio program in Australia?)

Just in case regular AW listeners were wondering.

Did this just start today?

Quarters gave a preview of Ten Eyewitness News (Melbourne) to Denis Walter on 3AW afternoons (2:50pm).

I believe Hugh Riminton also did the same on 2GB in Sydney (an hour earlier).

I guess that’s something

NOTE: I remember prior to 2014 for a number of years, Mal Walden or Helen Kapalos also did previews with then Derryn Hinch. In 2013 it became a ‘sport segment’ on Drive with Tom Elliott.
