Nine Radio (Talk)

Yeah, they carried it over from 3RRR, pretty sure they were Crud in all different slots around that time.

I wonder why 3aw did not announce Tony Moclair replacment for the overnights as part of this new line up then?

For overnights I think it would be either Simon Owens or Andrew Mclaren

might not be locked in yet?

Wonder if Tony Jones thought he could have been in the mix? After publicly saying he no longer wants main anchor after Hitch retires, one would have thought he may have thought he had a chance on AW….

Will be Simon. Andrew is getting to the latter stage of his career and I can’t see him wanting to do those hours at his age permenantly.

If they are cost cutting might end up with Luke Grant again

No way. He’s a terrible host, worse than Elliott and you can’t get much worse than him either.

Sorry I wasn’t saying I thought he should… I mean surely he would have thought he was a chance

I’d love for Simon to get the Overnights job but I can’t see it happening. He has his Saturday night show he’s just started up again, does Remember When each Sunday night, and is the station historian/archivist. He’s good to have around as the go to ā€˜fill-in’. I’d be surprised if it doesn’t go to Pat Panetta given he’s just started hosting Sundays.

You’d hope it’s not going to be networked from Sydney, but I can’t see any other candidates other than Simon or Pat.

Simon won’t take up the role.

He was asked about it on facebook. His response is below:

I can confirm that I have spoken to management. I am an option, but there are many people putting their hands up for the role and I would actually rather stay doing what I am doing now. So it is highly unlikely that I will take over the slot. I have been the fill in for Keith McGowan, Andrew McLaren, Luke Bona, and Tony Moclair, and I really love that occasional role.

A friend attended Nine’s upfront event yesterday and said that 4BC’s Laurel, Gary & Mark were not included in the mention of radio talent broadcasting from the Olympics.

Either omitted as a smaller market or will no longer be broadcasting on 4BC come the time of the Olympics.

Would be a lot of changes at 4BC who have lost their drive host, planned change of mornings host (not a Hadley fan, but why you’d remove your highest rating shift is strange) and possibly a change at breakfast too in 2024.

I’d say the classic hits & talk hybrid format hasn’t really proven to be any success.

Nor has bringing a top rating brekkie show across.

4BC didn’t put its all into the show (i.e. it is not a pure classic hits brekkie show like it was on 4KQ). Here’s hoping they jump ship to the top rating 4BH and just go back to what they used to be.

Leave 4BC and Nine Radio for News Talk formats only.

Whilst not living in Brisbane I am not surprised that Laurel, Gary and Mark is not working for them. Nine Radio seem to believe they can attract a younger audience overall which simply does not exist. Anyone born after 1970 was brought up listening to FM Radio they are not going to say, hey I am 50 now better listen to AM Radio before it is gone forever. Nine would be better off sticking to television and forget about radio and newspapers.

I see advertising for Laurel,Gary and Mark on 4BC on buses and billboards around the place, I don’t know why if hardly anyone is listening to them.
Somehow I don’t think they will be there next year, 4BH is the only station they can go to next ,then their ratings(4BH) will go up even more if they move to there.
They will only stay popular if the 3 of them remain as a team

The younger audience is there and are finding these stations on DAB+ or streaming apps/smart speakers now. They’ll only resort to AM if they’re in an older car I guess.

I heard a new news theme on the 10pm and 11pm bulletins on 3AW tonight. Not sure if there are technical difficulties or if it’s a permanent change.

Well, 2GBs remained the same tonight. Might just be for tonight.

Afternoons today is a snooze fest. I’ve really gone off Jacqui Felgate. She comes across very scripted lately.
It’s just boring - no genuine actual conversation.

Was/is it still the Nine News theme?

a bit late here…

As was widely tipped by media and here on MS, not surprising to see Tom Elliott finally get the coveted Mornings gig (will be interesting to hear/see him and Neil together in the lead-up to the change-over as well as the latter’s new roles with Nine), with Jacqueline Felgate going to Drive (a bit surprised it wasn’t someone else more notable with current affairs identity such as Heidi Murphy who would’ve been perfect - often filled in and on Mornings and EP Mitchell for years and was once the station’s State Political Reporter in the Brumby era) thought Felgate more likely Afternoons, but they’ve also moved Tony Moclair up to that role.

Elliott will make Mornings his own, but he’s defintiely different to Mitchell and will take getting used to, especially loyal Mitchell fans and given Mitchell had essentially been the ā€˜face’ of the station the past decade (save for the Breakfast duos and Hinch before that), while Felgate I’m not sure will work at all, the network seem to be struggling with this timeslot now, with Sydney having been a bit of a disaster following Fordham taking over Jones and feel it’ll go the way of Jim Wilson.

Tony Moclair the only one that I see being an instant success, certainly the fit, bringing back that lighter entertainment/blokey day time truckie/tradies (of course many women too) that Denis Walter delivered for over a decade. Looks like they’re happy with Walter on nights, he seems to have settled down after being upset after the move from day time. And as for Ross and Russ… Their ratings/shares, as Ross has delivered the past 30 years, speak for themselves not to change anything.
