Interesting how Nine have learned their mistake. When they first took over Moclair was binned for networked overnights. Then reinstated and now hosting afternoons. How times change!
I think Tom moving to mornings is a good idea. Will he have the same âcommunity trustâ as Tom? Not sure but I guess time will tell.
Elliot in mornings is a mistake.
Who will do overnights now? Simon Owens? Clinton Maynard?
Heidi would have been better suited to Drive.
Watch the Drive share tumble. Wrong choice there.
However the Morning share is more critical considering how 3AW dominates so no surprises. I do enjoy listening to Tom and his segments on the way home. Lost opportunity letting Dee Dee go.
RIP 3AW.
We all know 3AW will still do well. They have no commercial AM competitors⌠this is exactly why Nine chose to eliminate the opposition - especially with their destruction of 2UE Sydney.
Commercial AM talk can get away with anything these days.
In Sydney, itâs just fortunate for those who have discovered 2SM. And 2SM is becoming a decent alternative to 2GB⌠if you disagree with Ben, canât handle Hadleyâs rants, find Deb boring, or prefer sport at drive? Then at least we have 1269AM still available.
No surprise that Tom Elliott has got the Mornings gig. I hope he does well but the real test is when he has to handle breaking news, interview the PM/other people in politics etc.
Jacqui Felgate on Drive is a big risk. Very highly rated by management but not sure sheâll resonate with all listeners.
Tony Moclair will be great on Afternoons. I suspect either Simon Owens or Pat Panetta will replace him Overnights (canât be a coincidence that Pat has started hosting the Sunday morning edition as of now - trying to familiarise him with the audience?).
Elliot is cold, doesnât listen to callers and cuts them off. The polar opposite of Mitchell.
Must admit Iâm not that familiar with him, wasnât he a radio comedian in a previous life?
I would describe him as âTom from Corporateâ ![]()
Will be interesting to see the reception Jacqui Felgate gets in the drive shift.
2AY in Albury currently takes 3AW drive Monday-Thursday (the only affiliate Iâm aware of for that show), they dumped it briefly a few years back (early 2018 maybe from memory?) but restored it a few days later after listener complaints. It wouldnât surprise me if Ace uses this opportunity to try and drop 3AW drive from 2AY again.
Yes. He played Guido Hatzis doing prank calls on Triple M.
3SH in Swan Hill is the other Ace radio station that takes 3aw Drive they take the show Monday to Friday but during footy session they only take 3AW drive for the first hour as after 4pm they have Coodabeen Champions. I can not see this lasting once Tom moves to Mornings
Yes, Tony has an extensive background in radio, radio comedy and comedy writing.
Here is his bio from Nineâs media release:
Starting at 3RRR in 1993, he has presented on Nova Adelaide Breakfast in 2004, ABC Adelaide Breakfast, ABC Melbourne and then MMM Melbourne in 2008. In 2011 Tony became a regular contributor to Tom Elliotâs Weekend Break on 3AW and in 2016 took over the Australia Overnight program, where he has been constantly No.1 in that slot.
Totally ignoring Triple M Melbourne evenings and drive with Jules Schiller in the late 1990s.
I seem to recall a Sunday night show they hosted on MMM called âCrudâ.
Yeah, they carried it over from 3RRR, pretty sure they were Crud in all different slots around that time.
I wonder why 3aw did not announce Tony Moclair replacment for the overnights as part of this new line up then?
For overnights I think it would be either Simon Owens or Andrew Mclaren
might not be locked in yet?
Wonder if Tony Jones thought he could have been in the mix? After publicly saying he no longer wants main anchor after Hitch retires, one would have thought he may have thought he had a chance on AWâŚ.
Will be Simon. Andrew is getting to the latter stage of his career and I canât see him wanting to do those hours at his age permenantly.
