NEIL MITCHELL: Dan must cancel the Commonwealth Games they are too expensive

Itâs not going to sound the same without him.
Hoping Heidi Murphy gets a go in a full time timeslot, sheâs by far the best theyâve had to replace Neil when heâs been away.
While Neil is quite conservative, he still had a strong sense of fairness that is sadly lacking from many on that side of politics these days.
I have a lot of respect for Tom Elliott but he just doesnât have that same touch, heâs a bit too corporate for my liking.
John Laws was just live on air congratulating NeilâŚIs Laws stuck down a drain pipe somewhere?
Superb career and amazing broadcaster.
heâs at 2SM⌠soâŚ
Many of Neilâs regional listeners would remember John Laws when he ruled regional Victorian airwaves when his show was networked out of 2UE.
End of a true era on the station. Only Ross will be the the remaining OG from the century on the network. (excluding Darren James)
I also wonder if this means Jane will leave as her main role was to deliver the commercial sponsor messagesâŚ
Interestingly, one persons suggestion of the lineup looks to be pretty bang on to whatâs about to be announced tooâŚ
guys i was making a comment about Neil Mitchell, not making any value judgement or comment about Dan, so this was not intended to trigger a Dan-bashing exercise. Take that elsewhere.
A very sad day for 3AW. As much as Neil would claim itâs his own decision, itâs safe to say that changes in the work environment since Nine took over may have encouraged him to resign.
I donât live in the state, however, when visiting/streaming, itâs clear to hear what a successful program he leads, even if I may not listen continuously as donât need to hear the entire content.
Any replacement needs to have presence and be able to build an identity with audience and wider public. It may take a few hosts to find that as it did prior to Neil beginning on Mornings.
Tend to agree. It will take time for a new program to gain the reputation that Neil had in Melbourne/Victoria.
The respect people have for his program as being a place to go to for help during natural disasters, personal tragedies or even just rallying around special causes like the RCH Good Friday Appeal or even today with the Alfred Hospital Appeal will take a while to be earned by the next host(s).
I didnât realise that⌠was Lawsâ interview live on both 2SM and 3AW at the same time?
I think so. It was all very odd. He was talking about mushroom poisoning then Neil was like âhello?!â
I think what happens was Johnâs show called in and then they broadcast the phone call over 2SM you can even hear the ad break go through
Prior to Neil on mornings it was the late Murray Niccol who was handed a ratings juggernaut from Derryn Hinch.
Although Neil used to fill in for Derryn, Neil was doing Saturday breakfast prior to taking over drive from Murray. This all came about when Hinch went to Channel 7 to host Hinch at 7. When Murray left Neil went to mornings.
Spot on Rossco regarding Clinton Maynard. And today he celebrates 20 years at 2GB / 2UE combined. Chris OâKeefe just talking about him on air (COâK OB this arvo from the magnificent Hero of Waterloo pub in The Rocks ⌠celebrating itâs 180 years standing!!)
I wonder if ACE Regional stations will contiune taking 3aw mornings after Neil Mitchell leaves at the end of the year
If thereâs a cheaper way & Ace can maintain/increase revenue, theyâll do it.
What a terrible interview, is Laws not wearing headphones and canât hear Neil and didnât know that heâd stopped speaking to him? âhuh? what?â at the end⌠needs to retireâŚ
It looks very likely Tom will take over Mornings, but the only other candidates I could genuinely see getting the gig are Tony Jones or Heidi Murphy. Someone who should be considered is Seb Costello. Yes, Seb is the chairmanâs son , but he has filled in on various programs and is an actual ânewsbreakerâ as opposed to being a âcommentatorâ.
Wouldnât be surprised if new hosts for Mornings, Afternoons and potentially Drive are all announced at Nineâs upfronts. Perfect timing.
With out a doubt ACE will continue with 3AWâs morning show.
Youâve got to wonder whether it also marks a bit of a beginning of a (potentially long) transition to what AW will become as the traditional talk audience moves on too.
